Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. There are customs/agriculture rules regarding carrying meat, cheese, plants, etc into the US. Be SURE to learn the process in order to avoid inspection delays and potential fines / confiscation!
  2. 8PM is too late for us. 5:00 is too early. Immediately after boarding we go straight to the dining room and request a window table for two for our MyTime…as close to 6:00 as possible ( tho that doesn’t really jibe with the traditional times). So whatever time we are on the books for, we at least generally get our window table ( tho not guaranteed) for two. The first night is usually a confusing/chaotic time at the MDR. After folks learn the drill, we find a smoother process. We generally arrive at the tail end of the first seating…close to our assigned time…and get seated quickly…often at a preferred location. We do not care if we get the same staff each night. If we need to wait, a cocktail nearby is easy! Memo: take note of the two waiting lines…one for reservations, one without!
  3. Opinions/thoughts of best time of day to visit Sagrada Familia? I will purchase tickets soon for a November visit, so wondering if there might be an optimal time of day to tour…music playing?….Natural (sun) lighting?….crowds?…Construction workers? Pretty sure any time is good so hopefully not over thinking!
  4. Anybody familiar with the town of CornerBrook….anything interesting right off the ship? ( looking at a long port day…10AM-11PM)
  5. So…. Embarking in Barcelona, Spain…. Is check-in time Barcelona time or RCCL website “official “ time? 🤣🤔
  6. Will be in Barcelona for two and a half days (3nights) pre-cruise. Looking to schedule an itinerary … realistically knowing we won’t see it all. Staying at H10 Catalunya Plaza 1. Midday arrival, so for a half day, thinking of just wandering that area depending on jet lag. 2. 1st full day…. a city tour(suggestions??) to get acquainted with the city then a nice dinner 3. 2nd full day… early tour of Salgada Familia then Gothic Quarter? easy walk? Taxi? 4. 3rd day noonish head to cruise port after leisure morning ( coffee/breakfast on the plaza) Thanks for suggestions!

  8. Looking at Volendam pics…not sure of time frame. One showed a laundry room on the lower promenade deck! Still there for passenger use?
  9. Is aarp gift cards so very different from a rccl gift card? My son gave us one (rccl) he bought on line and printed it out. We didn’t try to use it on line, but had no problem applying it to our account (at the guest services desk) once on board.
  10. Yes, TeeRick, I agree with you about conversion starters etc. (port and excursion info), but I still find the #of cruise competition and status claims to be all about bragging rights. In dinner, casino, bar conversations I can get great cruise info as well as new friends.
  11. As a D+ and casino prime, I appreciate the perks but fail to see the need to visit the “elitist” HH in the crown lounge. I love the Viking crown lounge for its view day and night, its peaceful atmosphere, a cocktail, and music. Beverages and snacks are abundant ship wide. I truly enjoy getting to know/make new friends, but the HH conversation seems too focused on comparing / competing #s of cruises and how many comps received. Too much one-upmanship competition for me! By the way, some “crown lounges” are now in one-window or windowless rooms. 🥴
  12. Save on luggage and easily repeat outfits with mix/match and switching up accessories! Honestly, I can pack one simple black dress that works for several nights by changing it up with jewelry, scarfs or light weight sweater. (maybe not consecutive nights). Add nude and black stockings and a pair of black shoes. Also use the sweater with any mix/match and even at daytime. Daywear can be almost as easy. I have found that folks rarely notice, or care, if you repeat clothes. Just stay neat and clean. 😉
  13. Press only?? First HAL cruise on the books! Though occasionally I need laundry done….stateroom sink/shower and clothes line works ok for me. However, I do love some well pressed items. What might the cost be for PRESS ONLY? When on a different cruise line, I unpack and send a bag of clothes out right away for pressing only and get them back by the next AM for less $ than the full washing service etc.
  14. Planning excursions for September cruise… Anyone have experience/thoughts on what might my chances be of getting on a shore excursion that I am waitlisted for? I went ahead and booked my husband, and put myself on the waitlist, figuring his booking can be cancelled if I don’t succeed getting booked. 🤞
