Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I had no problem with a cruise that was many months out, but others seem to have trouble. Maybe some new tougher rules are in effect. I am not sure.
  2. You do not "just" get the better dinner reservation slots. We book Concierge for warm weather cruises to get access to the front spa deck. Especially wonderful on Vista. Also, on larger ships, the Concierge lounge is nice to have access too.
  3. Wishing you good luck in the random neighbor game. Hopefully the thin walls on Vista do not offer you lengthy nightly noise fests coming from your neighbor's TV.
  4. Suggest contacting VQ transfers. VQT.com. They are great at arranging private car transfers anywhere around Venice. Owner named Trisha us a Brit. She is great at giving advice. Helped us out getting from Venice Airport to Ravenna for a Celebrity cruise last summer.
  5. We are packing..deciding between mostly long or short sleeve shirts (for men) for Splendor transatlantic embarking on Sunday. Have only cruised Regents's older ships, so wondering whether the A/C keeps dining and other rooms pretty cold during sea days and in evening dining rooms on Splendor..or are temps more moderate? Our last cruise was on the new Oceania Vista and the temps on the ship varied widely between venues. Hoping for better on Splendor. Thanks for any advice.
  6. Loved much of Vista but will likely not cruise her again due to pervasive noise between cabin issue. Two cruises..unable to sleep until late at night when neighbor decided to turn off TV...happened on both cruises..even when I talked to my neighbor and he showed me TV was turned very low...volume less than 10. Told by staff problem is pervasive... all over the ship. So if you are lucky and have neighbors who are quiet and do not turn on TV...you will not have the problem...seems strictly a matter if luck...a chance I will no longer take.
  7. While I agree there is a chair hog problem, I would be very surprised if your rather arrogant letter stating that you know Regent's legal risk better than they do and demanding an explanation of why they won't do things your way, gets any result. On a recent Oceania cruise I was told by ship's GM that NCLH legal counsel has forbidden any enforcement by removal of valuables. This applies to all NCL, Regent and Oceania ships. Result of a lawsuit settlement with a passenger who had valuables damaged or destroyed during the enforcement process.
  8. Yes, finally asked stateroom attendant at end if my 16 night cruise. "Home" light comes on when you put your key card in the slot adjacent to the little alert panel (do not disturb, please make up room indicator). When you take the card out of the slot it takes up to a minute before the home light goes off.
  9. Yes, we had a q and a session with our Panamanian local guide during our transit on Vista a few months ago. As I remember, he and a few other retired canal employees formed a company which contracts with the Canal Authority to provide guide narration services for cruise ships during their transits.
  10. Will take that any day instead of a cruise director who makes everything about themselves...asking for applause before pre show introductions, too many long winded announcements, wearing attention getting outfits...etc etc.
  11. Well, we join Splendor in less than 2 weeks for the TA. We will see first hand if toilets are cranky 😆. On a more serious note, we have spent 27 nights on Oceania's new Vista in the last 4 months. Never again! "Thin wall" noise between cabin issue is a big problem. Concern that Grandeur suffers from reported same issue and was built in same ship yard, raises concern that will keep me away from her.
  12. Based on the noisy cabin/" thin walls" issue I am hearing about on Grandeur, I may limit myself to just Explorer and Splendor.
  13. Have you been told this is true or are you assuming the reason? Maybe, like so many things with Oceania, they handle this inconsistently. I put in for shareholder credit for 3 cruises at the same time, all well ahead of final payment date. One was 3 months away, one was 9 months away and one was over 18 months away. Received the credit for all 3 promptly.
  14. IMHO Oceania food is pretty even with Crystal and Regent, both of which are considered luxury lines VS Oceania's upper premium category. In any case, Regent and Crystal are at a much higher price point.
  15. Did they confirm that any sort revolution will not happen...just superficial...eg. carpets, paint...things like that?
