Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. The Queen Anne holds a max (all berths filled) at 2,996 with 1225 total crew. I think what he's referring to is the Queen Anne is large enough to have accommodated 5,000 passengers but capped it 2,996. In no way would Cunard operate the ship at 50% capacity. He's just trying to emphasize the spaciousness of the ship. All marketing fluff.
  2. When they filmed episode onboard it was on actual planned sailings. Princess cruises back in the 1970's & 80's operated the Pacific Princess on one-way 7-night sailings from Los Angeles to Acapulco with stops in Cabo, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo. You would fly back to Los Angeles. You could also fly to Acapulco and cruise back to Los Angeles with the same stops or book it as a roundtrip sailing from Los Angeles for 14 days. I remember this as I had a Princess brochure back from those days. Mexico cruises operated in the winter/spring with summers in Alaska. In the 1990's I did this cruise on the newer Crown Princess; however, we stopped in Ixpata/Zihuatanejo instead of Manzanillo. Princess chartered a United Airlines 747 and flew us from Acapulco to Los Angeles as part of our cruise package. We got is sit in the upper stairs bubble of the 747. Great memories.
  3. Queen Mary 2 offers solo type cabins on decks 2 and 3 - The more popular Category KC on deck 3 offers 6 cabins that are located on the left side or port and are somewhat unique as they run sideways along the ship with 2 large windows as opposed to Category KB with a 9 standard layout cabins with one window on deck 2. I was fortunate enough and snagged Category KC for my Norwegian Fjord cruise in August. If you want one of these solo cabins you will need to book early as the go fast. If you don't see either of these categories available, then they are probably sold out. Pricing wise - I don't think you going to find any great deals on either of these solo cabins as they are pretty popular. I booked my cabin directly with Cunard.com. Look for KB or KC outside single cabins during the booking process. You can also call Cunard reservations or book with a travel agent.
  4. Hear is another suggestion. There are various "learn how to dance" videos on Youtube. Why don't your husband and you moved some furniture around in your living room, patio, den, etc to make a suitable dance area and follow the videos. Just work on the basic steps and if you are committed to more advance steps. Make it fun! Practice makes perfect. Then once you feel comfortable enough find a place in your area that offers live dancing so you can practice in public. Once you get onboard the ship as others have suggested take some dance classes. I bet in no time at all you'll be dancing like pros.
  5. I sailed on the original Regal Princess back in the mid 1990's round trip out of Ft. Lauderdale to the western Caribbean. Lovely ship. Both the Regal (1991) and Crown (1990) were originally un-named new builds for Sitmar Cruises along with the Star Princess (to be named as FairMajesty) until Princess/P&O purchased Sitmar in 1989. The Regal Princess was christened in New York City by former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Margaret Thatcher.
  6. So, I placed a minimum bid to upgrade from an obstructed balcony cabin to an unobstructed deluxe balcony. My bid was accepted, and I was place into that upgrade cabin. I had 3 days to paid for it thru my cruise personalizer. It is my understanding that if I don't pay for the upgrade (for whatever reason) I will be placed back into my original cabin. So, Princess must/should keep my original cabin open until I paid for the upgrade for 3 days. Once I pay for the upgrade then Princess would/could assign my original cabin to someone else. I think the whole purpose of this bidding process is to generate additional revenue by upgrading passengers at a price that feel comfortable paying and giving them a cabin in a premium location to make them happy. I certainly am.
