Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Thanks Edinburgher! I appreciate your recommendations. The plan to walk down King's Stable road and through Grassmarket allows us to see more with a purpose and more direct route than what I had mapped out originally. Looking forward to our day. You have been extremely helpful!
  2. Thank you. I will keep that in mind. I looked at it on the map to see where we would head to get to St Andrew's Square. There are four of to share cost of taxi so it would not be too bad if we decide to do that instead of tram. We will probably use the tram to get into town in the morning. This is our plan: Tram to Princes stop west end Princes Street Garden, west end to see floral clock and Ross Fountain for view of Castle walk to Victoria Street Then back to High street to walk the Royal Mile take our time.. maybe turn left up Cockburn street to look around. end near Holyrod and then take taxi to Calton hill, if weather and time permits. Any thoughts or suggestions about what we have planned for the day? such a short time to see all there is to see. We just want to make the most of the time we have and tried to plan an itinerary that makes sense.
  3. Thank you for your quick response. You helped me out again! I am so thankful for people like yourself who take the time to share their experience and knowledge of a city. It is so helpful and much appreciated. Now to hope for a clear day so that we can enjoy the view from Calton Hill. It will be a nice way to end our short port day in Edinburgh.
  4. We have been working at planning our day in Edinburgh. We will be doing quite a bit of walking to see the sights and will end up near Holyrod Palace. In order to save time and our legs, we are hoping to hail a taxi from the palace area to top of Calton Hill. is this possible? Also, if we walk back down from Calton hill will we be able to find a cab to hail down to take us back to New Haven tender port.? Any idea of cost for these two trips would also be appreciated. Thanks so much.
  5. Thank you both so much for replying to my question. It is nice to haver two options to look into where people have given me their personal recommendations. We appreciate it.
  6. We are two couples traveling together. We will be staying in Amsterdam for a few days prior to our cruise. We embark a HAL ship in Rotterdam. We are looking for recommendations for private transfer company for us to book for pickup from our Amsterdam Hotel and transfer to Rotterdam cruise terminal. We know we can take the train but do not want the hassle of dealing with luggage etc. We know it is more expensive for a private transfer but it is well worth it to us for the convenience. If anyone has a personal experience with a specific transfer company we would appreciate your input. I have looked at Welcome Pickups and staxi.nl Thanks in advance for your thoughts and any information you are willing to share.
  7. Just wondering if anyone knows what the cost of the Escape Room will be on Icon of the Seas? Also, I don't see it listed as an activity in the Cruise planner. We sail on March 16th. How far in advance do they open booking for the Escape Room? Thanks!
  8. you guys have been great! It is so nice of you to answer all of my questions and in such detail. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. We are looking forward to our visit to Scotland next year, both Edinburgh and the Highlands. Wishing you a very Happy holiday season and health and happiness in the New year!
  9. Thank you guys so much for taking the time to share your knowledge. It is so helpful. We were reading about Carlton Hill. From the images online, it looks like a beautiful overview of the city. If the weather is good, we would like to make a stop here. What would be the best way to find our way to top of Carlton Hill?
  10. Sorry but one more question regarding the bus. When I went to the travel planner and put in NewHaven Harbor to Princes Street, it says take bus 11 and get off at North St David Street, stop YC. Is this near the Princes Street, stop PP? I'm a bit confused.
  11. Good information. Thank you for your insight and help. We appreciate it very much.
  12. Thank you very much. Very helpful information. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge with us.
  13. Thank you. I think we will bypass going to the yacht because of time, especially if we want to stop at a pub for some lunch.
  14. Yes. HAL originally had us tendering in South Queensbury but recently switched it to NewHaven. Thank you for your advice about taking the tram or bus and picking up the HOHO bus in town. If we took the tram or bus, which is the best stop to get off at that is at the top of the Royal Mile area so that we walk downhill as we continue touring? Do you think the tram will be faster as it will not be dealing with traffic as much as the bus?
  15. We w ill be cruising on Holland America Rotterdam and be tendering in New Haven (Edinburgh) in August 2024. We are in port from 8am-5pm. We are planning on taking either the HoHo bus that leaves from port to get into the city or the take the tram or bus. We figure we will won't get on land until 10am and will need to be back in New Haven to tender by 3-330pm. Only 5 hours. Not nearly enough time but what can we realistically see during that time period? We want to do the royal mile, see the outside of the Castle and Holyrod. We were also thinking about making a stop to visit the Royal Yacht Brittania. We are worried because August will have the Fringe Festival and the Tatoo going on. We figure it will be very busy. We will be in town on a Monday. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.
