Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Sid, I my not have posted (I'm still getting used to the "live review" format) but loved your live reviews! You reviews are well-written, very entertaining and the photos so original and creative. Greatly appreciated, and now that I know about them I'll definitely be reading more. Thanks!
  2. DH doesn't care much for cruising so I often cruise solo - or with other solo cruisers I met on previous cruises. Life is uncertain - if you want to do something, go ahead and do it now. Good on you for booking solo.
  3. I too have allergies & asthma (and I'm fully vaccinated and boosted) with coughing and sneezing all the time for at least the past 6 weeks, But before proceeding to an indoor restaurant for a Mother's Day brunch I decided it would be prudent to run a quick home test even though I felt fine. POSITIVE for Covid! Late that night I began feeling tired and ran a low grade fever. Other than being an asthmatic with an increased risk for Covid if dining indoors, I wouldn't have tested and wouldn't have realized I was exposing others. There is no 100% guarantee even with precautions.
  4. I routinely travel with a laptop backpack + 21" rollaboard carry-on suitcase. I got in the habit when doing one or two week medical humanitarian aid trips, as that way I could use both my checked bags for medical supplies. It works fine for trips to warm places including Caribbean or Mexican cruises too, when you need mostly light-weight clothes. Having only what I can carry myself is also good where there is no assistance with baggage, in the event of last minute changes in travel plans, and for quick getaways from the airport instead of waiting for baggage. A vest or jacket with lots of pockets, like a ScotteVest, can also be very helpful.
  5. This is true. The Employee Health nurse at work asked me (by telephone of course since I am home in isolation) if I was shocked that I tested positive. No, I was a little surprised since I wasn't really sick, but this is how Covid is showing up now - among vaccinated people or people with some immunity because they have had Covid earlier. With many people there are no symptoms so we're not aware of exposure to a "sick" person. However, though I don't feel good and am glad not to be at work, I am not terribly ill and not in the hospital despite several risk factors. ehall, I wish you an quick and uneventful recovery.
  6. If you are predicting differing advice from different doctors (and other sources), you're probably correct. There are new and differing reports, predictions and advice every day, depending on what is the latest from states' health departments, new journal articles, pronouncement from professional associations, promising vaccine announcements followed by news of delayed approval, arguments about variant-specific vaccines vs more "universal" vaccines effective against more strains, local "waves" - it is never ending. Right now Covid is a new disease and we don't know very much. I am amazed that we got any vaccine against it developed and approved in less than a year. I was holding off on booster #2 until I got a little closer to my next planned travel or gained more information, then I tested positive for Covid on Mother's Day (despite rigorous masking, distancing and sanitizing) - scratch the planned brunch. At least I am not "real sick."
