Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Have not been in that cabin, but encourage you to go on the cruise with a positive attitude. Would not bring a white noise machine when you can download and use white noise app on your phone. You may be lucky and have quiet neighbors. We spent 27 nights on Vista...two different cruises, had some difficulty with neighboring tvs. Will likely avoid Vista in the future, but I encourage you to think positive and use white noise apps and open your balcony door and use the ocean to add white noise.
  2. As I u derstand it,Vista and Regent's new Regent Grandeur were recently built in the same shipyard...different than Marina and Riviera..different design and 10 plus years later. Both Vista and Grandeur have reports of poor sound proofing between cabins. I have cruised on Riviera and Marina multiple times with no sound issues between cabins. Two long cruises on Vista in two different cabins and experienced the issue in a problematic way. Was told by staff on Vista that the problem is pervasive on that ship..no matter what deck and cabin you are in. Was considering cruising on Regent Grandeur but will change my plans based on reports from that new ship. NCLH has a problem they are supposedly addressing...not sure how they will do it.
  3. Vista is far from a sweet spot for me. TV and conversation noise from adjacent cabins disturbed my sleep for a total of 27 nights on two separate cruises. It is a major design issue I hope they fix on Allura.
  4. We just completed a wonderful transatlantic on Splendor and pleased to see that yours on Grandeur went fine. I have read about lack of good sound insulation between cabins on Grandeur. Obviously different than creaking sounds from the ship itself. Did you have any issues with "thin wall" noise from your neighbors?
  5. Sampling the smaller older R class ships is not really a fair test of whether or not you like Oceania as a cruise line. Somewhat different experience if you try the Riviera or Marina. Many love the new Vista, but the inadequate sound insulation between cabins makes Vista a no go for me. I also enjoy cruising on Celebrity, but the Edge class ships are so different than the other two classes, it is almost like there are two Celebrity cruise lines. I like their different ships for different reasons.
  6. And don't forget the TVs which can be viewed while ironing! Now if they only had some decent live channel options...wait..that's a whole other discussion 🙄
  7. We cruised Vista in both November and February. Found Terrace similar to our experiences on both Riviera and Marina. Agree with Hank that when you consider Waves and Aquamor (soon to be added to the Marina), the overall lunch options are just fine. We did sometimes enjoy the evening more casual dining options in Terrace.
  8. My understanding is that that port fees and taxes are separated out on the TA's copy of invoices along with the air fare portion, if applicable. According to my TA, this has to happen since O subtracts them out when calculating TA commissions.
  9. Doubt if there will be any more libraries like Vista's. The new Allura will take the space utilized by Vista's library and use it for an ice cream/dessert/creperie area. Small area adjacent to the computer classroom will be devoted to library space on Allura.
  10. Does the Chase coverage include pre existing conditions? I have heard it does not.
  11. Not sure how value could constructively be added to the discussion. Since Oceania brazenly touts itself as having best cuisine at sea, I think it is fair to compare it straight up with cruise lines with much higher fare structures.. IMHO O food is equal or better with cruise lines that have much higher price points but because it is not all inclusive, for some who purchase alchohol and ship tours, the cost of an O cruise can equal that of some cruise lines with more all inclusive pricing.
  12. Just disembarked 14 night Regent Splendor TA cruise. Also have cruised 27 nights on Oceania Vista in last 6 months. Regent is clearly superior in main dining room, both in terms of service, food quality and diversity of choices...not even close IMHO. Oceania wins in food options and quality in buffet and in Waves/ Outside Grill area, but service is better on Regent Staffed served model on O buffet creates crowding and IMHO the facade of being more sanitary without any documented better/healthy results. In fact the only time I have encountered a noro virus outbreak in more than 50 cruises has been on an O cruise. Specialty restaurants are a tie.
  13. I am also on the ship. The internet/technical staff has told me July or August. Agree the current situation is not good.
  14. We are three days from the end of our Splendor crossing Miami to Barcelona. We had itinerary changed on day of embarkation skipping Bermuda and Horta due to anticipated bad weather. Replaced with Nassau and Funchal resulting in 8 straight sea days. Weather has been warm and nearly perfect. Loved the sea days! I wish you an equally wonderful cruise!
  15. My TA arranged a special several thousand dollar savings on a cruise I had already booked. Price was some kind of special offered through a few agencies but not offered on the RSSC website or to the general public. I lost shareholder onboard credit, onboard booking benefit and Amex Platinum...total of about $800 in onboard credit. Probably first time I have boarded a ship with zero onboard credit. Savings on cruise fare was so good I did not care.
