Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I don’t know of that tour. But if the tour goes to Ybor city take the tour!
  2. I am from Northern New England (NH). In June in the Med should be warm. In NE it should also be warm. Just remember, if you are cold layer more clothes.
  3. I agree with HANK! Generally May is not hurricane season, so the odds are you won’t see bad storms. But the sea is a fickle mistress anything can happen! The cruise lines constantly track all bad weather happenings and are always going to avoid the bad weather if possible. Relax, the only cruise ship that was lost sunk in very shallow water off the coast of Italy.
  4. I am impressed with the answers on this thread! When I am trapped on the ship I explore! I have a scooter and I try to find all the special spots that are cozy, out of the way, and comfortable. Of course I do download a lot of video on my ipad.
  5. As one who has used a scooter on many many cruises, please allow me to give you my perspective. If our mom is able to stand and walk a few steps on her own, AND she doesn’t fear mechanical things then she will have ZERO problems. The scooters that vendors rent should fit through the stateroom door. Notice I said SHOULD. The rentable scooters usually have a speed control (usually there is a turtle on one end of the dial and a rabbit on the other. Have her practice on the turtle speed till she gets comfortable. As far as I am concerned I would rather pick up the scooter outside the ship rather than in the cabin. That way you can drive it to your stateroom and you’re not at the mercy of waiting till someone can take you. Same for disembarking you wait in a comfy chair. All in all she should love the experience and good voyage!
  6. Here is my 2 cents. I have 2 disability scooters. Afikim S4! And a smsrtscoot. Opposite ends of the scooter world. The AFIKIM is amazing with a range of 30 miles, 10mph. Not portable in any sense of that word. Would not work on a cruise ship. The smartScoot costs mid 2k. It weighs about 40lbs with the seat. It costs 250 to 400 dollars on average for a cruise scooter rental. 10 cruises it pays for itself. I have literally been all over Rome on mine. The Coliseum, Forum, the Vatican, all over the city. There were zero problems. As far as anyone choosing one, that is a very very individual question. Why do you want one? Does it fit you? Do you feel safe on it? How fast and far will it go. 4mph is ok on a ship! But when touring it might be too slow! Being a big person, I was 350 lbs, I was concerned by construction. Go to a scooter store, try them, inside and outdoors. Do you like 3wheels or 4? Do you feel safe on it? Will it hold a cane or 2 or crutches? HTH
  7. If it rains, it is possible you could have electrical problems. There is a raincoat for around 20 bucks amazon that covers you and the scooter. But if it’s raining hard don’t use the scooter.
  8. It’s August 2022, and I still have the smartscoot. Scootanywhere is out of business. My scooter was broken by SouthWest airlines. They broke the tiller folding mechanism. Hey handed me the pieces and said sorry! I still love it! It’s still great! I have ridden it in Rome, Florence, corsica, Spain, Gibraltar, Bermuda and all the hills, and it chugs along!
  9. I have travelled all over the Atlantic, Caribbean, Italy, Spain, Corsica, Monte Carlo (my favorite place) Malta, Bermuda etc. And have only had minor irritations. A light Scooter will make the adjustments easier.
  10. I bought a smart scoot 5+ years ago. Simply because we take cruises, go to Disney etc., and it's MUCH cheaper to own your own. There are MANY MANY scooters out there and by no means am I trying to steer you toward a smartscoot. HOWEVER, I have taken my scooter to the Coliseum, The Roman Forum, the Vatican, All over Spain ... Barcelona, Mont Blanc. All over Malta. NEVER had a problem! Well until Southwest Air decided to force something and broke it! The parts were 25 bucks. The rear wheels can be narrowed to less than 29 inches to fit through stateroom doors. It breaks down so you could store it under the bed. Don't be afraid of scooters most rentals have a Turtle - Rabbit dial use the Turtle setting (slowest Speed) till you get used to it. Really don't have your hubby push you all over the place it's tiring.
