Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. 99% of the time My wife and I strive to be the most laid back guest and make it our priority to make our room steward, waiters, and bar tenders life as easy as possible. We try to set a schedule to be up and out of the room at the same time every morning and not return until we are certain they are done. Room is straightened before we leave with everything put away and the bed almost made. I know they do so much more but we pretend they only have to change the towels and empty the trash. Two nights ago at a restaurant (not on a ship) I ordered tacos and the food runner (not the server) brought me a burrito. I was eating it and the server came by to check on us and was floored that I didn't complain. I've called NCL 3 times to make certain that my cabin for the next cruise (Oct 22 TA from Southhampton - Can't wait!) has a note for the beds to be separated. It's me and my adult daughter this time and last timothy put the beds together and then had to separate them. I felt really bad because he had just put them together for us. Same last name and all. We were on an Alaska cruise in May and there was a couple BMWing to the maitre'd about something stupid. I couldn't take it any more and walked up interrupted the entitled couple and started complementing the maitre'd and kept talking over the complainers until they gave up and walked away. Few things piss me off more than people abusing, yes I think that's an appropriate word, the staff. I don't think asking for an extension cord is abusive by any stretch of the imagination, and would have asked if it hadn't all worked out, but guess who gets recognized first when I walk up to a bar, or gets their laundry back that night, or gets brought an extra desert without asking? The old cliché of catching more flys with honey and not being the boy who cried wolf serve me well. Now, when you're the excursion desk on the Spirt and start trying to spin a falsehood, I'll knock your dick in the dirt pretty fast...and guess who the pursers desk (sorry I'm old guest services) believes when I escalate it. tldr: Yes I could have asked, but it's not my style and it gives the wife something to laugh at and take pictures of.
  2. A sincere thank you for the advice. I was being sarcastic in a (failed) attempt to point out the inconsistencies in the policy. Here here on the extension cord. I forgot to pack one once and had a Rube Goldberg set up to power it. I plugged it into the wall stretched the standard cord as far as it would reach. Put the little worthless foot stool/vanity seat next to the foot of the bed and that made the hose reach just far enough to use as long as I didn't roll to my right. Only made that mistake once. I don't even bother with distilled water at home. As long as I empty the water every morning and give it a good vinegar rinse every weekend there's no scaling. Once a couple of years ago I was super busy and didn't do the vinegar rinse for about a month. CLR (a lime remover) cleaned it right up.
  3. Thanks. I was playing devil's advocate. I've used my CPAP onboard for probably 20+ years of cruising. I used distilled water for about 6 months and have just used tap water ever since. A 5% vinegar rinse every weekend eliminates any scaling that might build up. I don't even bring the humidifier with me on 7 day or shorter cruises. A bit o' vaseline in the nostrils at bed time prevents any bloody noses or dry air induce viral infections.
  4. IANAL, but I believe that theft requires 'denial of use' of 'property'. I had some IP 'not stolen' from me once and during the litigation it was clearly pointed out the copyright violation is not theft, regardless of the legality/illegality of it .
  5. warning: gross and disgusting explanation follows. Stop reading. To make your sharing analogy more precise, this would be if you drank the drink to be shared and then mama bird regurgitated it into the person’s mouth who didn’t have the drink package. Hmmm would that violate the terms of the drink package?
  6. Is a CPAP on the exception list like hair care items for heat? Cuz my CPAP is both a heating device (humidifier) and a fan. 🙂
  7. Consider Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice, that which is more easily attributed to incompetence.
  8. Yes they will. We just don't like wine and always decline it. It's a struggle. The waiter insists, twists our arms, slaps our hands, and really really tries to get us to take it. One of the suggestions is to bring it on deck or back to our room. Technically we haven't done it, but it seems to be a permitted thing.
