Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Thank you to all who have been so quick to reply. I'm going to try to answer all questions with this one reply. The cruise is on Sapphire on Jan. 21, 2025 from BA. I included Plus when I booked. Currently, this offer is not being offered on the same cruise. The OBC is not reflected anywhere in my paperwork . I have additional OBC including Military and Stockholder which is where is always is found. It is not on my travel summary or my invoice. My TA was not helpful and I will not be using her in the future. She was an unexpected replacement for one I had used for years. I thought perhaps the credit wouldn't be reflected until we boarded since it seems to be offered as part of the cruise. I thought maybe someone had also booked with this inclusion and might be able to shed some light on the issue. Thanks again!
  2. I booked a cruise to the Antarctic on the day these were options. I booked Princess Plus. Does anyone know how this $900 OBC will be provided? It's not on my OBC profile in my account. I'm not sure how to guarantee that I will receive it since it is also not listed in my receipt. I obviously have the screenshot as well as the dated receipt.
  3. We use a local TA but they are part of a large corporation (the automobile club one). Any time they have left (retirement or moving to management) we have been notified and linked to another agent with an introduction. They have been extremely responsive to any emails/calls. I have only met the first one in person (out of 3), although we could meet with them if we chose. I have always done my research before booking and know which cruise, cabin and price I am willing to pay. My bookings are marked "no upgrade". I have never received unwanted calls or emails from Princess. I have, however, sailed with NCL and regularly get unwanted calls from them - very irritating.
  4. We are long time Princess cruisers. We don't have many complaints because we usually cruise in a balcony cabin and spend a lot of time on our balcony. We love sea days and sitting on our balcony enjoying the peace of the sea. The food in the dining rooms has changed over the last few years - more fish, fewer high end meats, miss nightly Alfredo - but we can still find something we like and tastes good to us. Our last cruise, on the Emerald, we had reservations in the MDR for the same time every night. We had the same table and waiters every night and just walked to our table - loved it. We seldom eat in the buffet and like the International Cafe. We have always had great room stewards and wait staff in the MDR. My biggest complaints are not getting quick bar/wait service since medallion and the lack of dance venues. There are now so many ballroom dancers in the few, small dance venues that there is no room for the average dancer. That being said, we still enjoy the serenity of cruising on Princess and at a price we are willing to spend. I have never watched the Wake Show. We have sailed with NCL, Celebrity, HAL, and Vantage (luckily we didn't lose any money with them). We did enjoy Celebrity. We're cruising with Viking this summer but don't like their policy of paying so far in advance. I think, basically, we are comfortable with Princess and have always found a cruise we have enjoyed.
  5. We booked two cruises going to LeHavre and the port was cancelled on both cruises due to weather and the difficulty of accessing the port. I highly recommend doing a land tour if Normandy is your “must” stop. After our two attempts we traveled on our own to Normandy for 2 weeks and wish we had more time. We had a private guide for two days just for the D-Day highlights alone. I agree with Ellipooh - post #7. Don’t be disappointed.
  6. We were on the Emerald last month and are not fans of the motion detection light in the closet. I complained about it to guest services and the same day it was covered with duct tape - problem solved. I don't know if our steward or maintenance took care of it. The ones by the bedside tables aren't too bright (as compared to the closet one) but also didn't feel we needed them so covered them with the decorative pillows from the bed. In retrospect, I'm sure our steward could have taken care of it if we'd asked.
  7. @TN-Mountains, We were celebrating our 50th Anniversary so we opted for a suite - you're right. We had one grandchild with us and the other 2 families had balcony cabins with 4 in each cabin. That way, when the kids were in bed, the adults could still have the balcony. We wanted this to be memorable for all. I'm not a lover of inside cabins so didn't want to put the family in them. There is one downside to the suite. It comes with perks that can't be shared with everyone. We never want to the breakfast at Sabatini's or took advantage of any other perks of suite living. Small price to pay for the extra cabin space and wonderful balcony. Be sure to bring your own binoculars - they aren't supplied!
  8. Yes! I think this picture says it all. We had a big balcony because there was a big family group together. But here is our family on our balcony.
  9. Last Thursday we took the transfer to LAX and then the hotel shuttle to our hotel. Princess does ask flight info so they know when to schedule your departure from the ship. We wanted to stay on the ship as long as possible so gave them info for a red eye. We were then scheduled for a 9:30 departure from the ship - the latest time allowed. By the time we arrived at the hotel it was before check in time but they had no problem checking us in, which was nice. We stayed at the Marriott. By the way, it seems you don’t get a ticket for the shuttle any more. According to the excursion desk, they can tell by the color of your disembarkation tag that you have booked a transfer.
  10. We’ve had a couple of meals at the Duke of Wellington. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere. https://www.dukesouthampton.co.uk/ It’s an easy walk from the port. We stayed at the Premier Inn which is close to the Holiday Inn.
  11. We stayed at the hotel at terminal 5 and wanted to get the transfer from terminal 5. We had been told to meet our transfer at terminal 3. So when we first arrived at the airport I spoke with one of the princess reps waiting for arrivals. She said either terminal was fine. They have transfers from both terminals. We went to 5 and there was no problem. We didn’t get to the terminal for the transfer until about 9 am and still waited so don’t show up at the crack of dawn.
  12. If you book using a voucher, I feel the most important thing is to have travel insurance that will cover a voucher. After doing some research, I found that Viking insurance will NOT cover your loss if using a voucher. Find the correct insurance so you won't be stuck losing your money. Our voucher is for $17,000. You can be sure I did my research and bought the correct insurance. My cruise isn't scheduled for a year and a half. I don't want to lose my money. Do your research and buy insurance!!
  13. We were on the Regal in July when they filmed The New Love Boat. We never received any notice at all. Some our travel companions were in the background of the opening credits but had no idea they would be there - just discovered when they watched the show. So I guess you are already ahead of our experience. That being said - the filming was not intrusive or bothersome. We could hardly hear any dialog and while sitting by the pool (there were no pool restrictions), it gave us something amusing to watch. I did hear that one of the lounges was occasionally closed for filming. There were no cords or wires in the way and there was a very small number of film crew. It may not be as bad a you imagine. I hope that's the case for you.
  14. I could also see a problem if you used your address but she is not traveling with a UK passport. Our daughter lives in So. Korea and has traveled with us. We use our address but she has an American passport.
  15. Well, I can give you our daughter's experience. Booked through EZ Air, they (4 of them) were flying to Barcelona from Boston via Paris and were due to arrive in Barcelona day before cruise. Morning of flight out of Boston the flight out of Paris was cancelled. Called EZ Air. On hold for about 20 minutes. Representative and her manager spent at least 30 minutes trying to find another flight. Best they could do was book her on same flight the next day (day of cruise departure), meaning an overnight in Paris. They took that option. The next day, their new flight to Barcelona was cancelled. Turns out Air France was on strike. Called EZ Air again. After another 30 minutes of effort, the representative got them on another flight on another airline, first class and they were able to make their cruise with a couple of hours to spare. They were not charged any additional for the first class flight. The representatives were very accommodating and helpful and my daughter had an excellent experience. I'm sure you will also get horror stories about EZ Air but in our case, they saved the day.
