What's the strangest thing you've ever seen on a cruise?

Maybe they couldn't get over the incredible resemblance to someone they knew from back home?

Nearly a decade ago, I asked another tourist I saw at Dunn's River Falls if I could get a photo of him because he was a near double of my local travel agent at the time! He obliged, and when I got back from the cruise, my travel agent was suitably impressed by the snapshot of his "long lost twin brother".

Thinking about the professinal photographer situation. My teenage daughter is a ballroom dancer and there are photographers at these things who can then take whatever photo of whatever child they want. These are printed off at the competitions and then plastered all over their website for any old random person to buy at £10 a photo..... yeah, now when you put yourself up for that sort of thing you expect pictures to be taken and sold - I dont mind that, but there are two strange things.....

One time my daughter had a sleepover at a friends house and the friend's little sister had a massive formal portrait of Laura in her bedroom (much like a person might have a picture of Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe) ?!?!

Yet, the same comp organisers will not let parents take photos of their own children at all due to child protection issues?

oh the second thing - someone bought my picture once because they liked my hair and wanted to take the picture to their hairdresser!! but at least she told me!!

Edited by Suzieanna
to add the second thing!

Little sis adulation of a pretty friend isn't uncommon but the parents paying for a massive formal portrait sounds strange. An 8 x 10, no biggie.

At least she told you and complimented you!

The strangest thing I have ever seen was a lady dressed in all sorts of nautical clothing on the day we got on the ship. She was a complete mishmash of stripes and polka dots. Some stripes were vertical. Some horizontal. Some diagonal. Everything was red, white & blue. She had on a skipper's cap. Her footwear was platform sandals- with at least 4 inch heels. She was wearing little lacy socks with them, the sort that you put on your three year old to have her picture taken with the easter bunny.

Every night she had on some platform sandals and these kiddie socks. Her dresses were always skin tight too. And she had to have been at least 70 with a much younger male escort.

I see cute red/white, red/blue, blue/white print clothes sometimes in the late spring/early summer. But if I even go near it, my husband shakes his head and says "Sailor lady."

On our last cruise, my husband didn't know that you need to spread the spray on sunscreen around. So after being out in the sun all day he had a very interesting pattern of sunburn on his belly. It looked like someone took a clothes iron and just stick it randomly around his chest and stomach. Or like he got burning hot slices of pizza thrown at him. It was so hysterical I couldn't stop laughing about it. The awesome part was that it tanned that way and lasted for months!

My parents were on a TA with a large group of cross-dressers. My mom walked into the women's restroom to find one of the cross dressers in there-dressed in a dress, full make-up and earrings. It was quite surprising!

I know there is a large group of folks like this. I may have been on the same TA as your mom. One day, a fellow, dressed in his bikini was in the jacuzzi and suddenly decided it was time for him to be a man and he removed his top. Make up your mind folks!

My husband just did that last week in Mexico. He looks like an odd Dalmatian on his chest and stomach. 3 inch round, white circles (SPF 30) in amongst the tan. I don't know what he was doing with the sunscreen, he must have been re-applying in the same spots.

WTH is that?!?! Angel Goat packin' heat?

The strangest art I ever saw on a ship was a large framed real (I think) plant that looked exactly like a very large dandelion, roots and all, behind glass.

We had to pass it every time we used those stairs and it never failed to make me wonder why??? that was considered art.

But, the weird sacrificial goat picture wins!

I have to admit this is one of the things that has always amazed me about "twins". Trust me my nose is short and it is difficult to down from it but really, REALLY? Do adults think its cute to dress alike?

I'll go you one better. On the infamous TA crossing with the cross dressers, one married couple, a male and a female, wore exact duplicate outfits when he dressed as Michelle. Sad really, as he was a nice looking man with an attractive wife.

Well, I'll be 60 before our next cruise. Guess that makes me a dinosaur, or an Egyptian Mummy, make that Daddy.

Remember when we used to say Holland was for the old fogies. Oh, well, add me to the group. 60 on our next cruise.

I buy pictures of my kids and grandkids and my friends all the time. I'm not in the picture but I still want to buy it. Who says just because you aren't in it that you have no connection? You can't expect the guy selling it to make the connection.

This cruise we were on our own, no friends, no family. I would have asked people we knew.

My point was, the guy who sold me the pictures didn't bother to ask me why I was buying pictures of someone else or their children. All they cared about was that I paid for them.

And MY POINT was why in the world would anyone want a picture of me and my husband?

I just found it weird. I look at the pics of us, i find one I especially liked. I went to find my husband to see if he agreed and 10 minutes later the photo was gone.

BTW since you pay with your cruise card they CAN look up and see whom it was, he just would not tell me, I am guessing a regulation by the cruiseline-but oh well at least he made me a copy.

I liked that Celebrity Solstice had you put in your card as ID and then you choose from your pics on a screen instead of already printed pictures. No worries there.

I hated my first HAL cruise, I was bored to death on ship. Back then I loved Carnival. Fast forward 12 years later, and it has been 9 years since I have even been on Carnival, HAL is more my speed, although I do not like their smoking policy, which is why Celebrity or Princess is more for my speed now-lol! I will be 60 next year. I will do one more cruise before the big 60 though!
