Is 11:30 AM Flight Possible?

Recommended Posts

Doable, but not recommended.... you need to be the first walk off and you'll be missing your last breakfast with the crew.

Here's a timeline you need to be planning for....

  • 7:00am walk off.... it's at this moment you need to plan for an uncertain amount of customs and terminal congestion
  • 7:55am board cab in taxi for the 35 minute journey to the airport.
  • 8:30am arrive at YVR for your three hours of check-in, security, and customs.
  • 11:30am wheels up with dreams on your return to Vancouver the time you ran out of.

Ideally, plan for a flight in the afternoon or evening.

11:30am is definitely feasible. Depending which date, you may be the only ship in port (so very easy to be on time even with a regular 'luggage taken off for you and collected in terminal' disembarkation), be sharing with NCL Sun (best to do self-disembark) or even be on a three-ship day (in which case, CRUCIAL to be among the first off the ship to avoid long waits for cabs).

SkyTrain is the most consistent method - but if the taxi queue is not long, it may be slightly faster end-to-end by cab since you have an extra 3 block walk and a ticker vending machine to figure out. If it's a 3 ship day, I would definitely get familiar with the route to SkyTrain though as cab queues can get very long indeed.

Despite the occasional horror story at YVR - which make the news precisely because it's a rare occurrence - arriving 2 hours preflight is usually more than sufficient, even for US-bound flights with CBP pre-clearance here.

How to avoid a long taxi line at the cruise ship terminal

Simply walk past the taxi lineup following the overhead signs that read "City Centre" you will walk past all the buses then the sidewalk turn a sharp left - now there is a set of double glass doors - enter and take the elevator up to Ground level exit the elevator and turn left walk outside thru the entrance to the Pan Pacific Hotel and grab a cab.... you will be on your way in minutes....

The taxi que is caused by traffic congestion and the taxi's having to get into the underground pick up area... yes the cruise ship terminal is 1 level down....

Additional thoughts...

  • The Pan Pacific taxi line feeds off the cruise terminal taxi lines. It's a great idea. I'm sure the taxi drivers would rather pick you up at the hotels rather than staying another minute in the cruise terminal line.
  • The Waterfront Hotel across the street also feeds off the cruise terminal taxi lines. It's another option.
  • Not sure about the Pacific Rim hotel 3 blocks to the East..... dragging the luggage down hill that hotel is another option. It's the same distance as dragging your luggage to the Canada Line subway line.
