New ATM Question Canadian Debit Cards

This is probably a dumb question but... I have read other threads about converting money in South America using ATM machines. Do the machines accept a Canadian debit card ? Canadian debit cards are not accepted at a lot of places in the US.

Hope there is someone who has had some first hand experience recently.

Thanks

In December and January we were on a cruise from Buenos Aires to Valparaiso and I used my CIBC bank card in Buenos Aires, Montivideo, Valparaiso, Vina del Mar and Santiago. Only once did a machine reject my card so I went to a different bank and it worked. You will be charged a fee, a flat fee if I remember correctly, so be aware that there is an extra charge.

I also converted some US funds in Buenos Aires and at a bank it was a lengthy procedure, even though we got special treatment because our hotel used the same bank.

If you go to the Falklands, I was forewarned that there are no ATMs there so if you are going take some British Pounds.

You should have no trouble using your bank card.
