I'm looking for a nice hotel for our Pre Cruise Stay in Sydney Australia. Would like to be able to walk to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

Any info you can share with me would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thank You

Pat

Pat,

I booked Quay West serviced apartments for a week stay in Sydney pre-cruise. It is centrally located to all of the sites -- Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Royal Botanic Gardens, The Rocks, etc. A friend has stayed many times at the York serviced apartments.

Thanks Pam for your feedback! :). I'm a little disappointed that there was no other hotel info shared...as that is what Cruisecritic is all about...feedback.

Anyway...we booked the Sydney Harbour Marriott at Circular Quay...for our pre Cruise Stay. Hopefully it is a short walk to the Opera House and the Sydney Bridge from this hotel.

Anyone stayed at the above hotel in the past? Please share your experience as any info you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Also...Has anyone done the Sydney Bridge Climb? We are planning to do this just not sure what time of the day would be the better choice for October 7/17. What kind of weather should we expect?

Hopefully someone out there has some info to share with us.

Thank You in advance for any info or suggestions you can share with us! :)

We stayed at this Marriott six years ago, prior to our first cruise out of Sydney, and really enjoyed it. The location is fantastic for a short walk to the Opera House and other sites in Sydney. It is very close to the ferry terminal so you can explore other areas as well.

Since our bags were on wheels, we walked from the hotel to the cruise terminal.

Our room was what we expected from a Marriott property, and the staff was very friendly.

We enjoyed it so much that we are staying here again pre-cruise for upcoming sailing in November.

The only downside is the website stated they were passing along a fee for charging the room to a credit card. That was a big turn off for us, so we used points instead.

Have a wonderful vacation.

After lots and lots of research, we're booked in Holiday Inn Old Sydney for our pre-cruise stay in January. The location is awesome, according to the reviews:D.

Unfortunately almost all hotels in Australia charge this ridiculous fee, and it is spreading to other businesses.

We found a hotel for $200 US per night that is not right at Circular Quay or the Rocks, but is about half a mile from there. It is called the Tank Stream. It is new and rooms are a bit small, but seems like it will be fine for us.

If you want a hotel on the Rocks or Circular Quay, count on $300 US or more.

By the way, the bridge climb doesn't allow you to take a camera. We did the piles climb, which is about 2/3 the height of where you go on the bridge and the cost is less than $20 and you can take photos.

Take a look at Travelodge Martin Place. The hotel is within walking distance of train station and all the major attractions. Also very easy to take the train to the port. We are staying pre-cruise at the end of November for $204/AUD per night ($156 USD). If you are interested, book on a Tuesday to save even more money! The hotel is currently being renovated and should be finished by August 2017.

Do you know why this is happening? Does this mean we should plan to have extra money on hand to avoid extra fees with paying via credit card?

It is happening because the legislation which prevented it was lifted a few years ago. I have no idea why. Here it is very popular to pay by electronic funds transfer to avoid the fees. Also by PayPal etc Don't know whether that would be cost effective from international banks though.

However, the prices you see for retail items are not inflated by taxes (by law the price must include them) and as you are no doubt aware you do not need to tip..

We have stayed at the Marriott Circular Quay twice and had a great experience both times. The location can't be beat. The first time we had an executive level room which included a fantastic breakfast and afternoon drinks/appetizers. The executive room was lovely and had good views of the port including the cruise ships.

Last November we were not on the executive level but were offered use of a very nice traveler's room the morning we arrived because our room was not available yet. There were several very nice showers, coffee and continental breakfast - so we were able to freshen up before hitting the bricks for some sightseeing. We were also able to leave our bags there and they were later delivered directly to our room so we didn't have to wait at the bellhop desk.

We also received a free drink card for use in the hotel bar. We did not eat food there but enjoyed a few drinks.
