Christmas gifts relating to Pride of America Hawaii cruise

Our family is going to Hawaii and sailing on the Pride of America next summer. There will be my family (my husband, daughter 19, daughter 18, son 14 and me), my sister's family (her, 2 kids and husband) and my mom.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone has any neat ideas for Christmas gifts that would be fun, yet also useful.

I thought about getting Hawaii tour books for my mom, but I didn't know if they were useful since you're in a different place each day on the cruise.

So, if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them!

There are paperback travel books that do include the larger islands, we bought several when we were travelling on the POA. We did not take any tours from the ship and rented cars on all the Islands, so we knew where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see. Hawaiian shirts are fun, our son wore one every day on the cruise. If you're going for a special event, anniversary, birthday, matching t-shirts with the event on it is a cute idea. (We went for our dd's 16th birthday and my SIL gave us t-shirts with "DD's Sweet 16 Hawaiian Vacation, and the date)" She was thrilled to get many birthday wishes! Hawaiian themed luggage tags, binoculars, gift card to use while on board. You will all love the cruise.

There a very good travel book by Ann Vipond that has high quality paper lots of pictures, easy to read and you can find it on line just search her name and most large books stores should have it. You may be able find on amazon or Ebay.

She has a line of books strictly on cruising different area's of the world and she is not judgmental on any of the cruise lines. Also fits perfect in a purse.

We have used them all.

Sadly, Hilo Hattie's is in bankruptcy. Some stores are closed and the few still open no longer have a good selection of items.

I would recommend the Hawaii Revealed books - especially if you're planning your own excursions vs. going through NCL. Also, consider Franko's "Fabulous" maps of each island. They're a treasured souvenir for us and helped us show the kids where we were. You could also reserve a lei greeting for everyone at the airport and put some kind of certificate in their stockings. Finally, if you're planning to splurge on any expensive experiences (like a helicopter tour), I would consider making that a Christmas gift in and of itself!

Enjoy - we can't wait to return some day!

You could all have matching Hawaiian outfits - that's kind of fun to do:

You might order some Hawaiian food to eat at Christmas such as Poi, Lomi Salmon or a Luau package:

BTW, I happen to like poi. It is best on the first day that it is made as it becomes more sour with age due to natural fermentation. 1 cup of poi has 120 calories and contains lots of Vitamin A as well as many minerals - it is much more healthy than rice, for example. If you get poi and it is sour, try topping it with a little milk and sugar or cream and honey to improve the flavor. The other thing to understand is that poi is a sacred food as it is believed to have the greatest life force of all foods and came directly from the gods. When it is on the table no one is to speak with anger or behave in a rude manner. It is supposed to be eaten with 2 fingers as 3 fingers is an indication of gluttony.

You could also buy and paint your own Luau cups:

This site has a number of Hawaiian novelties such as Hula girls and coconut bra tops:

This site offers Hawaiian bags - great for the beach or when touring as well as many other items such as tikis and ukuleles and even Hawaiian Christmas items:

Take a look at the Hawaiian travel accessories here:

you could get Hawaiian style lanyards for your cruise cards and there are Hawaiian luggage tags that will make your luggage easy to identify - helpful when so many of you are traveling together.
