Refund for Carnival Gift Cards on S&S Account?

If I use Carnival gift cards for my Sign and Sail account on the ship and there is some left over at the end of the cruise, how does Carnival issue the refund? Do they put it back on a gift card or do they give you cash?

Thanks for your answers.

I don't think you can take cash out at the guest services desk unless you put down a cash deposit. If there is a balance from gift card deposits, people have reported receiving a check back after the cruise while others have reported getting the funds back in the form of a new gift card. Some have been able to pull the extra funds out at the casino before the end of the cruise.

Very easy just go to the casino download the extra money onto your machine play a spin or two then cash out.Go to the cage and ask to cash out. They print a receipt for you to sign and give you the money. No gift cards or checks needed :)

Thanks for the info.

I think taking the money out at the casino would be the answer if there is anything left over.

I don't want to run the risk of getting a gift card and having to keep track of it till the next cruise.

I used a combination of gift cards and cash on my last cruise. On the last night I went to GS to close the account and was issued cash as my refund.

But was the cash amount you got back the same or less than the amount of cash you put against your account? If it was, then they were just giving you back the same cash you deposited. If it was more, then that would be interesting since they were cashing out part of the gift cards.

Are these people that closed out their accounts the last evening?

If you do nothing you will get a the funds back in the mail.

If you actually close out your account you should always get cash.

I never got anything back - was on the first Alaska cruise of the season on the Legend. I sent an email asking about the remaining funds last week and got a reply telling me to call. Must put that on my to-do list for tomorrow! Especially since I sail again in another week...

Well, I did something similar, but not exactly the same.

On our Miracle Hawaii cruise in January, we funded our S&S account with gift cards and on the last night, we did cash out at Guest Services. However, they didn't close our account and we were able to still make some last minute photo purchases...which was charged to the credit card backing up our account.

Based on what I've read and seen, it really seems to depend upon who's behind the CS desk when you go to redeem your S&S credits.

I got a check in the mail for the balance. I had exclusively used gift cards to fund the balance, so they effectively "cashed out" my balance by sending me a check. That being said, it was for $23, so I don't know if it was the small remaining balance that led to the check or not.

It doesn't matter about the amount, my last cruise they sent me a check for over $300 which was all from gift cards. On the cruise before that, it was only like $170 or so and I asked for that in cash the last night of the cruise. It depends on the amount, I really don't like carrying a lot of extra cash with me after traveling, so the check in the mail works great for us. We actually received it a week to the day we disembarked.

If you buy something after closing out your account and you have a credit card on file, then they have no choice but to use your CC.

I cashed out my account last night on the Sunshine around midnight. It was 100% funded with obc and gift cards. Went to the kiosk, made a cash withdrawal leaving $5 in there for St. Jude. Didnt even have to bother with guest services. Once I cash out, spending is done for everybody.:)

I have several Verizon gift cards to use on the Glory next week. If I apply them to my account via the kiosk, can I later withdraw some of the money via kiosk to use in the casino?

Thanks so much for this information! Have never really use the kiosk before other than to print folio statements, will do this myself in October on the

Sunshine! Won't have to bother guest services. :D

This must be one of those things that is different on each ship. My account on the Dream was funded only with Verizon gift cards ($1000) and a $50 "nonrefundable" OBC. When I tried to get cash out of the kiosk just to see if I could, it said there was $0 available for withdrawal. After the cruise we still had a little over $100 available and we received a check in the mail.

Edit: Of course I could use the money for the casino. Just couldn't take cash out at the kiosk to do it.

I purchased the discounted Verizon gift cards with my "fun money" (earmarked for the casino). My goal is to convert it to chips in the casino without paying the 3% fee. I will try the kiosk before I use the "download on slot machine/play a few spins/go to cashier cage to buy chips" method. Just seems easier.

Edited to add: Did I mention how delighted I am to be trying that method in just 5 days?
