What's Seabourn Odyssey thinking serving those hash brown bricks?

The food on Seabourn is so good I was shocked to find on my first Seabourn cruise in many years that every morning at breakfast they had these woeful, hard as rock hash brown "bricks". Why not some nice roasted potatoes or freshly make hash brown potatoes.

These bricks?

Money saving. Essentially the same thing you get on Holland America or Carnival, albeit in a different shape (now). IIRC Regent serves up the same thing.

I referred to them as "bricks" not because of shape but because they were almost always as hard as a brick.

Oh. Wow. I was thinking shape. The only time I've had them with a brick like texture was from the buffet in the Verandah/Colonnade.

My DH tries them occasionally - not me. I presume they are frozen and reheated - I bet they could be better if recooked properly and not left under the domes for too long? They always looked dried out to me.

At least on the little sisters AKA the restaurant will be closed for lunch and I don't care for the sky grill breakfast ;)

Erm.... this 'sky grill' must have passed me by. Where is it exactly?

It was the little hamburger/chicken/steak/hot dog grill and micro salad bar setup for lunch (and occasionally dinner) on the little sisters.

Sorry, it was just the 'sky grill breakfast' I did not remember, as I don't think it happened. Thanks for the photos, though, as a reminder of the dear little sisters of old.

We had a wonderful cruise on Odyssey in January. Food was excellent. But the hash brown potatoes? I wouldn't serve those in an elementary school cafeteria. I complained about them a year ago when we cruised Seabourn, and mentioned them again in my comment this year. We need more people to complain. If Seabourn needs lessons in hash browns, they should eat at Chubby's the diner just up the street from us here in Kansas City. LittleRedJohn

Forgive my pressing for clarity but are you actually saying that the Seabourn hash browns are a zero compared to a Mc5? (Full disclosure; I really like McDonalds hash browns, though real hash browns are the best)

Yes. I hate McDonald's hash browns. Seabourns are so bad they rate much lower

They did have breakfast potatoes most mornings but to be honest, they were not that much better than the patties.

Why not ask the chef to prepare potato latkes for you? Its SEABOURN. With 24 hours notice you can probably get them made with Yukon gold potato s and fried in duck fat if that's what you'd like!

The hash brown I had recently on the Encore was certainly freshly made and was nice (and I do not normally eat them). The sign on the buffet indicated they were freshly made which is why I had one.

Thanks for the pics and the memories, Emperor Norton - happy days. We loved those little ships. Windstar's gain, I think.

We recently got off the Encore and the hash browns with room service for breakfast were
