It's the warmest September (and August to some extent) since the 1930's

Halmstad (on the southern west coast) had it's warmest September day since they started measuring the temperatures in the 19th century.

They had 27.5 degrees Celsius today, while Gothenburg "only" had 27 degrees.

If you are in Stockholm dduring the winter, why not visit the Royal wedding dress exhibition at Royal Palace.

Just a heads up, Djurgårdsfäjorna have (a big unfortunately) been re-branded from Waxholmsbolaget to SL. All the classic "W"-signs have been replaced by gre generic boat signlk

King Bore decided to make a surprise visit, wreaking havoc on the buses and lorries and semi trailers in Stockholm/Sweden.

I have also decided that this thread will have to do for next year as well, most of the info is still valid.

Important dates are not correct but the only really important changes are:

Midsummer holiday which year happens at June 23rd - 25th.

Stockholm Maraton June 3rd.

Ascension day is May 25.

All other days will be on the same date (but different weekday).

A complete list of important days will be published later.

The ticket system in Stockholm will change on January 1st.

The zone system will be removed and all single tickets will cost 30SEK, however the time limit for free transfer is lowered to 75 min*.

This means that you are very unlikely to be able to re-use the commuter train ticket on a bus journey upon arrival in central Stockholm.

*time limit means that you are able to start unlimited amount of new journeys within the stipulated time frame, no matter how long the final journey is.

If you have a student ID or if you are 65 years old or older you are entitled to reduced price.

A new viking museum will open in Stockholm in late April next year.

It will be located at Djurgården, cclose to the Vasa museum.

Entry fee will be 190SEK (€19; $20; £11).

The museum will future an exhibition as well as a "boat journey" during which you can follow the life and destiny of Ragnfrid and her husband Harald.

There is a small but important change (which took effect in December) in the bus traffic in Stockholm for buses 54 and 69 at the Central station.

The stop for these two buses have been moved from Klarabergsgatan to Mäster Samuelsgatan.

However I don't know exactly where on Mäster Samuelsgatan the bus stop will be.

The change will be in effect until sometime next year when the roadworks at Klarabergsgatan and

the major renovation of Sergelstorg are expected to be finished.

Thank You Desdichado62 for a very informative thread. I just started to look for info on Stockholm. What is nearby to the ship pier? Anything within walking distance? Thank You for any suggestions you may have.

It depends on where the ship berths but normally the main priorities are possible to walk to but it's quite far.Public transport is recommended.

I have been reading your previous posts and would like your info on our own plans for the below.

Arriving 14th July Regal Princess @ S167. 7.00am -2.00pm.

We would like to head straight to the Vasa Museum and then back to Gamla Stan to visit Place/old town etc .

Plans are,

1. Slussen to Allmänna gränd (ferry)then walk to Vasa.(hoho or Emelie)

Any idea what time the first ferries leave and are they direct.

2. Allmänna gränd to Slussen (ferry)

Is it really this easy or have I missed something.

Yes it really is that easy.

1. I would recommend the HoHo-boats or M/S Emelie in your case.

since it's a quite long walk to Djurgårdsfärjan.

The HoHo-boats are supposed to meet up with the cruise ship when it arrives and then do a direct shuttle service to Vasa.

M/S Emelie will do her first tour at 07.28 from Masthamnen (outer most point of S167).

2. Yes the ferry (Djurgårdsfärjan) is the best option here. Summer time tables are not available yet though and probably won't be until April-May.

3. Back to the ship - walk, bus or taxi.

I forgot to say that the Emelie times is also the winter schedule so the actual time of departure might be different during the summer.

The ferry stop (Emelie and Djurgårdsfärjan) on Djurgården is at Allmänna gränd, the hoho-boats stops both at Vasa and at Allmänna gränd during the regular service.

During the morning the hoho-boats only stops at Vasa.

Our Princess ship is in dock 7 to 2, very short hours in Nynashamn. What is best way to get to Vasa Museum, and will we have time to go to Gamla Stan and get back to the ship in such a short time? Thanks.

If I may say so, something isn't right here. When the ship berths at Nynäshamn it arrives at 07.00 and leaves at 19.000 (12 hours).

It is only when they berth in Stockholm that you should expect a 07-14 berth time.

Such as 2017-05-20 when she is expected to berth at Frihamnen.

2017-05-31 and when she is expected to berth at Stadsgården.

That means if you have a berth time from 7 to 14, then your berth location is central Stockholm and not Nynäshamn.

Could you advise what impact the Stockholm Marathon June 3rd might have disembarking in Stockholm on that day. My husband and I will be going to our hotel for an extended stay in Stockholm but others from our cruise will be heading to the airport.

Some roads will be closed for traffic that day which means buses, taxis and etc have to use alternate routes.
