Crazy question about life vests (specifically for Joy and Escape ships)

I saw a life jacket laying on the side of the highway this morning on my way to work. I found it amusing given this topic. I never knew asking the question would result in some of the replies I've gotten. I've been on CC for quite a while now and I guess I just thought I would get answers. Lol! I've always found this to be a helpful board. It's kind of comical actually and a perfect example of why people can't solve anything on their own. So many do not listen to what other people are saying but they want to be sure everyone hears them. The reason I bring this up is because I have seen the same response several times, phrased in different ways. My point is that I would like life vests in my cabin in the event I cannot get to my muster station. I don't know if any of you have been on The Oasis Class ships but they really are a maze. I learn my way around but I envision people in chaos, going to the first place that has vests and life boats. I do understand the logic of it being faster to go straight to the muster station rather than the cabin then the muster station. However, people were still wandering around looking for the dining room on the 2nd to last day and they go there every night. I really think they will go to the first station they find (if it is severe).

For example, to get to our muster station, we went down a few flights of stairs, through the casino, through the art gallery, down a hall, by a couple of clubs and all the way to the venue that had ice skating. I forgot what it's called but anyway... it was SLOW moving and narrow. We did have to ask a couple of crew members where our area was too because there were so many people, you could not see them. Our room was on the 9th floor and this was on the 6th, I think. We passed several other muster stations first.

I have not been on any NCL ships, do not know the layout, etc. However, after the muster drill I last experienced, I would really like life jackets in my cabin. That's the whole reason I asked. I now know they should be in there or I can ask for them. I promise you I do not need to be "schooled" on the matter. Call me crazy but I like my chances better with a life vest.

You know what though? I bet we all do not even like the same vehicles, colors, shoes, clothes, etc. We do it have to agree on what we prefer! I really don't care! I'm not trying to persuade anyone. I just wanted to know about life jackets for my own cabin(s).

Again, I appreciate all the helpful replies.

I actually feel the opposite of the OP. I want them at my muster station, not in my room. I don't want to be eating, at a show, at the pool, etc., hear the call and all of us have to run to our rooms, get the life vests, then all be trying to get thru the small hallways with our vests on the way to our muster stations.

Ok, from the sailings I've been on I recall them being at the muster station AND in the room... are they ever not at the muster stations too??? I believe they are because they never want to you to go back to your cabin. Think the only issue here is that on a specific class of ship, on a different line, they were not also in your cabin unless you request them. This has been argued to death for absolutely no reason since on most ships they are still in your room and if they aren't, and that bothers you, you can ask for them to be in your room.

Personally, I'm usually in an inside room so the whole 'jumping from my balcony' thing isn't an option... I'm fine with them being in the muster station or forgoing life jackets all together. But overall this seems to be a non issue if you can request them in your cabin.

For a mear $80 = http://www.leisurepro.com/p-ahd14102/airhead-inflatable-belt-pack-pfd-24g-sl-basic-6f-red?gclid=CL_B9-TS09ICFQZWDQod8ngOgA&kwid=productads-adid%5E88202999953-device%5Ec-plaid%5E85893065694-sku%5EAHD14102@ADL4LP-adType%5EPLA

Have you seen the length of some of the pier's like Belize.

You stand a better chance of a strong wind blowing you off a pier.

A personal self inflating floatation device may help your fear's.

Yes, this is probably true. The pier we were docked at in Costa Maya is also quite long. Someone also has a better chance of being killed by a vending machine than they do of winning the Mega Millions lottery but they still play the lottery. I'm just saying. Again though, I'm not talking about the chances or statistics of it actually happening. If I really thought something would happen, I wouldn't go at all.

That is an interesting PFD though.

I know a number of us said the same thing but in a little different way. I also know some (probably many) responders don't always have time to read all the responses before answering. I think that is where you wind up with multiple type answers. If you read CC much you will see that a bunch. I did that myself with my response to you, only read the first few before I responded.

I agree on being prepared, aware, and generally having your wits about you so that you dont have to depend on others in an emergency. but it seems highly inefficient (and potentially dangerous) to attempt to go back to your room to get a life vest, when you can easily report to your muster station that WILL have them. yes, if you have them in your room, grab one and go if you are in your room at the time an emergency is declared.

rest assured, on a ship of 6000, probably 2000 are drunk or buzzed enough that they will report to muster much slower than you can so you will be first in line for a vest.
