live web cams on Breakaway?

Recommended Posts

does anyone know if the Breakaway has live webcams throughout the duration of the cruise? I really look down on this because it's an invasion of privacy. thanks.

How is it an invasion of privacy? It's not like there are cameras in your room. You might be shocked to find out almost anywhere you go in public there are cameras.

You have no reasonable expectation of privacy anywhere on a cruise ship with the exception of your stateroom and the spa.

Therefore legally, anyone (crew, passengers or otherwise) can film you without your consent being required.

mistress? lol. no mistress. but some people may be playing hookie from various places of employment!:D

and besides I still say it's an invasion of privacy. that's my story and i'm stickin' to it. i grew up in the 60's , 70's and 80's... no obsessions with phones, cameras,, selfies. i miss those days!

thanks for the responses. i wish we could have a national 'no selfie/ posting/ picture' day. i detoxed from fb 2 years ago and never looked back!!
A National No Selfie/posting/picture day would imply that everyone in the nation is in agreement... don't think that would ever be the case. That said, there is no privacy out in public so there's no invasion there but I understand how you feel. My job at a corporate center installed video cameras everywhere. The restroom was our only privacy and I just never felt comfortable working all day knowing someone is watching me. It's unnerving.

There are cameras in every passageway, in every elevator, in every public room, on every open deck, and looking along all of the balconies monitoring your activities.

yes, unnerving and annoying! i also work where cameras watch our every move. it would be so nice to get away from big brother for a change. oh well. but it's the live web cams that really put the icing on the cake. if we're on vacation in the middle of the Atlantic,, we don't need people watching us. it's creepy

Of course, there are thousands of fellow passenger's, that are taking photo's, and many upload them.....so....:D

Oh...and I almost forgot...there is that free 'selfy' camera outside O'Sheehans that you can send photo postcard's from....

I love that selfie camera. We came across that accidentally on our last cruise and plan to do it again in December.

They won't be watching you.....the live cam is focused off the bow of the ship, so all anyone sees is scenery.

Probably not a good thing to bring up the several port \ tourist cams they have...... wear your wig and mask walking along the dock in Bermuda or in NYC Times Sq or the millions of traffic cameras that see you coming & going to work.

Security cams, yes. Live web cams that show passengers/customers, no. Many corporations (Disney included) have removed them. Not because of privacy issues, but because of the idiotic things that some people will do when they know that they're on a live web-cam.

Live web-cams on NCL only show the bow, ocean (or port), and sometimes the crew pool (tub). They are still-pictures refreshed every 60 seconds.

Relax, big brother/sister watching over us ... all the time & everywhere, 24/7/365 - it's a matrix of privacy & transparency and sometimes, public safety & security. Think London, Paris, Seoul, Taipei and elsewhere - it's deployed everywhere, in the open & sometimes, not.

The disclosure is most likely in the digital cruise contract document's fine prints that all of us read, line-by-line and given our implied consent  ... NCL's ship webcam isn't even a streaming video as noted, just a static image refreshed between timed interval. Think about it, it's good for F&F at home/work to check & see the ship's status or whereabouts easily ... to know if they are docked, in calm seas or battling against mother nature. Besides, it is useless in the dark, no infra-red or night-vision viewing, LOL.

Worry about invasion of privacy ?? Every time you swipe your guest keycard, you are tracked somehow and there's a digital trail captured & stored. Carnival ships had been using facial recognition techniques for a while, NCL has yet to catch up ... well, maybe only inside the casino area, for good reasons to match biometrics.

Wait, need to "fingerprint" my smartphone to unlock it.

Don't bring your mistress to cruise ship, lol

Seriously, what kind of invasion of privacy are you talking about? It's not like they have live webcam in your room.

I was on a cruise where a man did bring his mistress. Once I saw him with one woman and another day I saw him with a different woman and a young boy. Both times they were sitting in each other's arms.
