Last Minute Booking

I am thinking of booking our first family cruise. I saw that if you book last minute, you get a better deal. Has anyone done this or do you have tips on how to get the best price? I have never cruised with Disney.

If the cruise is not filling as DCL thinks it should, they will offer "restricted" or *GT rates where the * is V for verandah, O for oceanview, or I for inside. There are travel agent sites where you can research all of these that are available or you can look by date on the DCL site. They may also appear under "specials" on the DCL site.

Bottom line is that there are special restrictions on these fares so be sure you read and understand the fine print before you book. The biggest thing is that you pay in full at the time of booking and can make NO changes after that and that DCL can assign you to any cabin on the ship of at least the type you booked or nicer--you have no choice in cabin or location, just type. Don't let that scare you. They do not give you the "worst" cabins on the ship.

We've done this a couple times and have always gotten what we considered to be a good assignment. We have never gotten the top end (like a cat 4 when booked a VGT), but others have reported this.

These are not really last minute by my definition, but are typically available just after the penalty period--typically 2 months or so before a 3/4/7 night cruise. Be prepared to book one of these if you see something you want. The number of cabins available is limited and what you see today may be gone tomorrow. Your TA can put a courtesy hold on a *GT, you cannot if you are booking direct with DCL.
