waterproof shoes in Alaska in July

Recommended Posts

I have goretex hiking shoes, and that was my main shoe for Alaska (and yes, I needed them because we did *actual* hiking, not just walking around ports ;-) But we didn't have much rain - but you never know, better safe than sorry when it comes to rain!!

We were in shorts in Ketchikan (in September!) which is truly odd - but I can't imagine having winter boots be my only footwear. Southeast Alaska really isn't that *cold* during the summer. Check the forecast before you leave, pack layers, waterproof jacket & shoes, and have a great time!

I wore tennis shoes, but I did spray them a few times with waterproofing spray. No problem with wet feet.

Just used trainers and sandals for our August Alaska cruise.

Bought second pair in Seattle prior to departure to have change of closed footwear if needed, (they weren't !!)

We had very little rain

.

On Princess helicopter tour to Mendelhall Glacier, over shoes were provided.

A good tread is almost more important than waterproof. Waterproof can make your feet sweat, water resistant should be fine for regular touring. Back onboard, change shoes. Making sure your touring shoes are as wide open as possible to dry out.

Could always get galoshes
