Cashing in OBC

Hi

Yet another OBC question...

We've purchased some OBC for upgrading our drinks package and booking speciality restaurants on the Eclipse, but even after this we are likely to have a residual amount.

I've read the other threads of suggestions of how to spend this, but I specifically want to know if it's possible to withdraw this as cash, for spending at the ports during the duration of the cruise (basically to save having to take extra cash).

If there's anyone on board or recently off the ship that could give a definitive answer, it would be most appreciated.

Purchased OBC is refundable and shows as OBR on you account.

OBR can be withdrawn at Guest Relations without a fee. However, usually they only pay out the remaining OBR at the end of the cruise.

Unused OBR will be credited/returned to your credit card.

If you have a mix of non refundable OBC (OBN) and OBR the OBN will always be used first for charges on board.

Since it is OBR you could cash it in at the casino during the cruise (other than non-refundable). However, a 5 % fee will be applied.

They closed the loophole the beginning of the year.

We are talking refundable OBC... no loophole to be closed ;)

I think you may have to change your account on board from credit card to cash to receive your left over OBR in cash. Otherwise, I believe that it will be converted back to sterling at the rate you purchased it. We changed one of our cruise accounts last year when we disembarked in Hawaii and wanted the dollars for the rest of the holiday.

It certainly makes sense when you have bought dollars/OBC at a good rate.

No, no need to do that.

We did it a few times when the exchange rate for purchased OBC was still good.

Account was a credit card account and withdrawel of remaining refundable OBC in cash on the last day was not a problem.

My spouse purchased some OBC last March on Silhouette as the exchange rate was good at the time of purchase .He went to the guest relations the first morning and asked for the OBC he had purchased in cash. Initially they said no but when he stated it was his money that he had purchased they handed over the cash.

I would take the cash I want to have, and not have to worry about it! There's a safe in the cabin to keep it....sure beats waiting at customer service to get your own money.

Yes, but you are not currently suffering the dreadful exchange rate we have at present. The OP's question is perfectly sensible in the current situation. Unfortunately, the OP is unlikely to be able to withdraw surplus US$ until the end of the cruise since they stopped allowing cash (yes, even your own cash) to be withdrawn in the Casino.
