question about Santo Tomas de Castilla Guatamala Port

Hi, I am thinking about sending a couple of senior ladies on a Holland America cruise, but am concerned about the Guatemala travel warnings. What a dangerous place! Does anyone know about Santo Tomas de Castilla? It is a fairly new port just opened last year. Your feedback is so important because I don't want these two ladies in an area that doesn't feel safe.

Thanks!

We just returned from our trip with the Oceania Riviera which had a stop in Santo Tomas. When you get off the ship there is a building with vendors selling tours and goods.

We did a tour with Happy Fish to the waterfalls. We had a driver and guide and the drive was about 30 minutes over very bumpy roads. The tour was very nice and an easy walk around the grounds. I think it's about a mile total and you see 3 waterfalls.

There is nothing to walk to from this port and I would not advise leaving the port area on your own.
