We are looking at the Celebrity Infinity cruise that will be in port in Rio for several days during Carnival 2018.

The question is how much will Carnival disrupt our port visit. Carnival might be interesting for a while, but we would like to see and do other things while in Rio as well. Any one have any feel for this? Thanks.

All the tourist sights get very crowded. Long lines.

Beaches are crowded with locals and tourists.

Carnival is not just the competitions in the Sambodromo. There are street parties (blocos) in various neighborhoods that can attract thousands. Effects traffic.

btw, note that certain "experts" on the other forum you posted this on get much of their info from the internet (as any of us could), and have only very limited personal experience in Brazil, yet comment with absolute authority on issues from gay life to toddler care in Brazil. Buyer beware (of inaccurate info).
