Shuttle Question on Canada Itineraries

Hello

Is there a shuttle from the ship to anywhere convenient in Quebec?

Thanks for the info.

Linda

We were on Quest last September in Quebec with 2 overnights, the ship pulls up right in the old town and it's only a 300 metre flat walk to be in amongst the old buildings. You can then walk up the hill to the top or take the furnicular. Quebec is one of our faviurite cities:)

It's not Quebec the province, they mean Quebec City which is not that large.

As has been said, it is an easy walk to the start of the old town. Also, the hop on/off buses stop across the road from the port exit. There is also a bike hire shop across the road and to the left. The bike paths in Quebec are fabulous. Can ride all the way to Montmorency Falls, nice flat ride.

There is a HOHO bus in Sanguney (not extremely efficient). There is not a lot to do in the vicinity of the dock in sanguney.

It is an easy walk into the town at Baie Comeau. There were a few shops and some walking trails that we enjoyed; it is a small town.

In Gaspe we chose to do one of the ship's excursion to Pierce Rock ( we enjoyed it). There is also a terminal where the ship docks in Gaspe

Is the HOHO bus in Sangunay an independent bus, or is it provided by Seabourn? (I was under the impression that Seabourn always provides a bus to town, if the ship is not docked within easy walking distance. At least that has been our experience on previous cruises.)

Also, do you recall how you located the walking trails in Baie Comeau? That is exactly what we'd like to do.

In Baie Comeau we just walked around the small town. We did come across this church which at the time was not used as a church as I think the parishes were joined and even though it had more history, was voted out by the other parish (I think the story was). For a couple of dollars you can watch a video and listen to the history.

We found it very interesting in a not so interesting small town.

A few more thoughts on Québec cruise ports.

Gaspé: Tender to cruise terminal/visitor centre. No shuttle provided but tours and taxis available. Across the road and over a bridge is Jacques Cartier Boardwalk which extends in both directions along Gaspé Bay. At the end of the boardwalk going away from town is Jacques Cartier Monument Historic Site and Gaspé Museum. Very interesting. At the other end is O’Hara Point Historic Site and Jacques Cartier Commemorative Cross. Not worth the effort. Walkable from the tender pier is the town of Gaspé and the lovely Cathedral of Christ the King with gorgeous stained glass windows and casavant organ. Side trips to Bonaventure Island and Percé are worthwhile.

Baie Comeau: Shuttle provided to main shopping street downtown. Easy walk from there to Place La Salle and St. Amelie Church with its frescoes and casavant organ. St. Andrew and St. George Church also nearby. A delightful urban forest called Boisé de la Pointe Saint-Gilles is hidden in the centre of town. Marked access to its numerous wooded paths can be found off many residential streets (look between driveways). Have tea at Manor Baie Comeau.

Saguenay: No shuttle provided. Tours, taxis and HOHO right at pier. HOHO has special routes for cruise passengers covering La Baie and Chicoutimi. Buses were not very frequent and service ended well before the ship was scheduled to depart. Not good value. Kayak and zodiak trips are available to superb Saguenay Fjord. La Fabuleuse is a grand spectacle but only possible to see in English through ship shorex. Great poutine joint across the road and to the right of the cruise terminal. Good candidate for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives!

Québec City: No shuttle provided. Easy walk, albeit uphill, to Château Frontenac. Nearby are Dufferin Terrace and Plains of Abraham. Tons of great walking options through historic Upper and Lower Towns. Excellent shorex opportunities to Ste Anne de Beaupré Shrine and Montmorency Falls. Don't miss an authentic sugar shack for fresh maple taffy.

Montréal: During a port call on another cruise line last year, we were berthed at a distant location rather than the more usual Alexandra Pier in Old Montréal. The pier and passenger terminal were under renovation. No idea if it's complete yet. At the time, a shuttle was offered to Old Montréal. When we were there on Seabourn, it was to disembark and no shuttles were provided.
