Deposit, Final payment for Explorer

If you book a Seven Seas Suite or above, the deposit is 25%. It is nonrefundable. Otherwise, the deposit is 15%. Final payment is due 150 days before the cruise.

 

The above is true for the "Inaugural Season" cruises, which Regent lists as only those cruises from July 20, 2016 thru Nov 2, 2016. The Transatlantic cruise in question (Nov 16, 2016) should follow the "normal" deposit rules of 15% for all suites, and only the $100 pp cancellation penalty up to 150 days before the cruise.

 

That said, Regent has not updated the "Terms and Conditions" to specifically include the Explorer bookings after the Nov 2 cruise.

I just booked Explorer for December, 2016 and my deposit was the 25%.

 

We booked the Dec 28 Explorer Panama Canal cruise (Miami to LA). The deposit was 15%, although it was further reduced to 7.5% as we booked it via the Cruise Consultant onboard. Normal terms throughout.

 

Perhaps you should double check your deposit with your travel agent?

My deposit was 25%, but I don't mind..might as well get it over with.

 

It says Shore Excursions on July 1, 2016 and

Dining Reservations on September 29

 

Drib, I am not "smart" enough to use that chart! LOL. If you know what date is correct, could you help me?

 

Also, since it has been YEARS since we were on Regent; what is the policy on Specialty Dining..how many times for each dining room. We have an Explorer Suite???

 

It is kind of hard for me to adjust to a different line as I generally cruise Oceania!

as my TA is supposed to be a big producer for Regent and Oceania. The amount of the deposit would hurt if I had to cancel...I hope not. The dates for the reservations is a bad difference. She is supposedly checking it. I appreciate your comments.

 

Do you know what the restaurant policy is...only two per restaurant?

My TA spoke with her contact at Regent and was told that Regent was extending the inaugural season for Explorer to include all 2016 cruises. So for 2016 Explorer cruises other than the maiden cruise, there is a two-tier deposit system:

 

1. For Seven Seas, Explorer, Grand, Master and Regent Suites, the deposit is 25%.

 

2. For all other suite categories, the deposit is 15%.

 

Using timeanddate.com, I calculated reservation dates as follows:

 

For the Transatlantic cruise (Nov. 16, 2016) the priority reservation dates are: March 21, 2016 (excursions) and August 18, 2016 (dining). Non-priority reservation dates are: May 20, 2016 (excursions) and Sept. 2, 2016 (dining).

 

For the Panama Canal cruise (Dec. 28, 2016) the priority reservation dates are: May 2, 2016 (excursions) and Sept. 29, 2016 (dining). Non-priority reservation dates are: July 1, 2016 (excursions) and October 14, 2016 (dining).

 

For specialty restaurants requiring reservations, passengers in Regent, Master and Grand Suites are guaranteed specialty restaurant reservations each night of the cruise. Assuming current practice does not change, all other suite categories may make one online reservation in each specialty restaurant precruise. Additional reservations may be made onboard.

The 25% deposit is nonrefundable. The 15% deposit is refundable subject to the usual $100 administrative fee.

 

Just to be clear the other ships have a $200 admin fee.

 

The 15% seem to apply to MS-SS2 only between 150-121 days out, before (deposit to 151) it is 25%. I thinks it is another of Regents famous typo's

I appreciate everybody that has posted trying to clarify what the deposit/ payment/ cancellation policy is for this cruise. Frankly, I'm still confused and its not your fault, but due to Regent's lack of clarity. How can it be that some people are being charged 25% deposit if it should be 15%?

No way I'm booking this cruise until I get written policy directly from Regent on what their terms and conditions are (which seem to be a bit draconian)

through November. The cruise I booked is December 28..so that is not in the inaugural season as far as I can see. I have contacted my TA for clarity. The dates for reservations are wrong on my receipt. Naturally I am bummed as I only have an Explorer Suite and I would much prefer a Grand or Master but their prices are extremely high, although they are somewhat lower on the last three cruises posted which are NOT inaugural. I do not ever eat in the MDR, so I guess I only get to eat three times on this cruise of 16 days in a restaurant and the rest will have to be buffet or something. I hope things change. I really thought there would be two reservations per restaurant! Oh well. Things could be worse.

DaveFR's information appears to be correct -- it seems that the inaugural season has been extended through 2016. 'We are booked in a Grand Suite and did pay a 25% deposit. Note: In terms of the cancellation window, it has been variable for some time.

Has anybody from Europe or the UK made a booking yet?

 

I phoned today to enquire about a G2 suite on the transatlantic sailing on 16 November 2016. The lady in Regent told me the deposit was 20% and would be forfeited in full if the trip was cancelled. This doesn't seem to fit with anybody else's experience!

 

I have consulted the UK terms and conditions and it seems to contradict the "no refund at all on cancellation" quote...and perhaps I'm being blind, but I can't seem to find any details on deposit. Plus, as a previous poster mentioned, it hasn't updated beyond early November.

 

To clarify, we are looking to book through the UK office, but are based in Ireland and are choosing the euro (no flights included) package as it is much cheaper. There is no specialist travel agent in Ireland that I could identify, so hence booking directly.

 

Any advice/experience welcome!

A simple question from the OP. All kinds of responses. Maybe Regent ought to clarify, or at least make it easier to find the answer to the question.

 

Still waiting for that update to the Terms & Conditions.

 

In addition to T&C, the following are excerpts from the Ticket Contract, which is a legally binding document for all parties. The Explorer has special provisions for cancellation fees, which are clearly defined as July 20 thru Nov2, 2016. The contract says "all other cruises" (those that are not the Explorer from July 20 thru Nov 2) have other cancellation penalties. Those penalties are the customary penalties which most Regent guests already know.

I have checked this every way but Sunday and now they have changed their story and all of 2016 is included in the inaugural season. I did put down the HORRIBLY HIGH deposit. I have not intention of cancelling, but one never knows what a higher power dictates. I have taken out insurance (at a very high cost at our age) in case the higher power dictates and that is the best I can do. My TA who has been away for a month is now back and I will speak to her tomorrow. I am afraid if you want Explorer you pay the ticket. At least the last issue was slightly less than the coming out cruises.
