Hotel suggestions for San Juan

We have not been to San Juan yet. Thanks for the recommendation, will check it out

We've stayed at Sheraton Old San Juan, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn and Courtyard Miramar (three times). Another place we have stayed at that hasn't been mentioned yet is the Holiday Inn Express. It's not far from the pier or Old San Juan and it's within walking distance of the beach and several nice places to eat. We're staying at the Embassy Suites again next spring.

Have you ever been to San Juan before? If not, I strongly recommend you spend some time visiting Old San Juan. For that reason, I would recommend one of the hotels that are closer to Old San Juan so you can save a little on taxi fare going back and forth.

Will check this out Thanks!

Not sure about your dates but we got LaConcha on priceline for a very good price for the end of January (98.00!!) Someone on my rollcall had booked it so they directed me to the right hotel. It was an express deal which cannot be cancelled.

We are going in October and wish I could figure out which hotel is La Concha on Hotwire but I can't figure it out.

Some one earlier in this thread told me what to look for but I didn't see a hotel with what they told me listed.

I think they are talking about the hot deals that are on Hotwire. Another amenity I forgot to mention is that la concha has an on site casino, so that might help narrow it down a little.

Thank you.

Apparently Dani isn't familiar with Hotwire.

There are 3 4star hotels listed for the west Condado area.

One has free parking and La Concha doesn't have that so that is easily eliminated.

The one that says casino hotel says pet friendly so that rules out La Concha for that one.

The last one listed says:

Complimentary

Free Internet

Amenities

Business centerFitness centerNear beachOceanfront hotelPool(s)ResortRestaurant(s)Smoke-free rooms

Not sure if that one would be it though. It's only $97. No mention of casino though.:confused:

Thanks for your help though. I appreciate it.

That's right. I know of Hotwire, Priceline, etc., but since we live in a "volatile" country like Israel, we never book non-refundable rates, even if they're cheaper.... I'm booking directly with the hotels, and I usually get nice rates with perks.

The La Concha I was talking about is this:

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sjubr-la-concha-renaissance-san-juan-resort/

It was right opposite the hotel we were staying in, the Best Western Condado Palm & Suites, very nice area on Ashford Av.:D

Yup, same one that I stayed at and booked via hot deal. Great lively location. Near a Walgreens and local restaurants and clubs as well.

That's the same one I'm talking about. I'm just trying to get some info on how to get it on Hotwire.:)

Did you enjoy your stay at the Sheraton Old San Juan? Do you recommend it?

I'll try to get on here when I get back. We're leaving in 3 days and we're staying at the Sheraton Old San Juan the night before and when we get off we are staying at Renaissance LaConcha Resort for about 4 days.

We've stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan...the location couldn't be better for Old Town and would definitely stay there again.

Not necessarily cheap but I was looking for a place in San Juan for a 1 night post-cruise stay. I was getting very frustrated because there seem to be a downside to every choice. We did want something on the water and did not care about being in Old San Juan. Lucky for us the El San Juan Hotel remodel had been pretty much completed. It is a Hilton Curio property. We stayed there on HH points. We had 2 rooms. One for us and one for our three sons. It is located in Isla Verde on the beach.

It was as nice a hotel that we have ever stayed. The breakfast buffet was the best one that I have ever enjoyed, also. It is not complimentary but we got 2 per room and our youngest son was feeling puny so he slept in. The cost for the breakfast was around $25 each and I would pay for it knowing what I know about it now.

If you want a great start to your trip, I highly recommend the El San Juan. We took Uber from here to the airport (just have to walk out onto the street) and it was $9.

Check out the reviews on Trip Advisor.

we just canceled our reservation at La Concha and booked the AC hotel in Condado. It is a Marriott property. The total bill was about $95 less than La Concha and we booked a deal and got 2 free breakfast buffets which usually cost $18pp.

The place was just remodeled last year and looks great and the reviews are excellent.

There is no beachside but there is a sister Marriott property a block away that you are allowed to use that has a beach.

I see that you are paying for your stay. BUT, just to let Marriott loyalists know:

If you belong to the Marriott Rewards program, you can join the Starwood Preferred Guest program and then link your two memberships. Both will receive the highest status of the two (if general in *wood but gold in MR, you are automatically gold with *wood, too). You can then transfer points between the two to book reward stays. The only "gotcha" is that, if you book with MR, you only get stay/points with MR, and vise versa with *wood. If you need stays to keep your elite status, you need to pay attention to that.

We have stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan, Marriott Stellaris & Doubletree San Juan.

I did not like the Sheraton. I paid extra for a room with a view and they put me in a room facing the parking garage. When i complained they didnt even apologize & put me in a lesser room that faced a different direction.

Had very good stays at both the Marriott & Doubletree. Marriott would be my first choice as it has a good location in Condado.

Doubletree is a good choice if youre looking for a one-night stay pre-cruise. It has a grocery store across the street that is fully stocked with beer, wine & every kind of spirit you need. Pool area is small but nice, free wifi and a starbucks next door. Staff excellent. Its not too far from the airport, the pan american pier or the wonderful plaza las americas mall.

Booked the Hampton Inn for a Saturday Night pre cruise stay in May. Priceline Express deal for $122 with taxes and resort fee included. I think if you can get that price you come out well with breakfast/internet/happy hour and beach accessories (chair, umbrella, towels) included. Plus a high rated pool grill and swim up bar.

I chose this location because I wanted a Isla Verde beach day on Saturday (9:30 am arrival) and to do a rainforest excursion Sunday and hopefully the excursion people will drop me off at the port afterwards. I am contemplating doing a one night post cruise in OSJ to tackle Old San Juan the following Sunday and fly out some time on Monday with getting breakfast that Monday morning from a good OSJ spot.

That should give me a good feel for the San Juan experience.
