Shore excursion

Will be going on a 3 night cruise to the Bahamas and will be in Nassau from 12-8pm. Would just like to sight see a bit and go to the beach. Are there any beaches nearby where the ship docks that you can go to or do you have to pay for the shore excursions that take you to a private beach? If so, how far are they and can you walk to them or do you have to take a taxi? Thanks so much!!

You can walk easily to Junkanoo Beach...in fact, you'll see it off to the right as you enter the port. It's not a GREAT beach, but....it's a beach.

After fighting your way through the aggressive "local salespersons" outside the pier, basically just keeping walking toward the right. It's perhaps a 10-minute walk.

[...leaving stuff on towels....]

I wouldn't recommend doing that.

Concur. I'd bring a waterproof phone-type case, put any valuables in it and take it into the water. You can get tablet-sized ones that will hold a phone, wallet or billfold, etc. relatively cheaply now.
