We are going on a TA cruise in April, 2018. Can anyone comment on the weather for that trip from April 15th to the 21st???

Thanks,

eclue

My husband and I crossed the Atlantic in our own sailboat in April, 2006, with very light winds and seas. We sailed from Cape Verde Islands to Martinique and it took 23 days! So if you are worried about storms I don't think it's an issue.

We did an April crossing from Fort Lauderdale in 2009 and again in 2011. Both times it was warm pool weather for the first few days. It then got cooler, but stayed pleasant with lots of indoor activity. Both crossings had moderate seas. In 2011 we hit very rough waters after leaving the Azores. Of course, you never can predict how the seas will be. We would take an eastbound T.A. again.

Our TA on the Star Princess had excellent seas and weather. The ship used a southerly route to the Azores and then onward to Portugal, Spain,Holland, Belgium, England and France and ending in Copenhagen. We had warm temps and cool temps. Layering is a good idea at this time of year.

We did the Crown Transatlantic in April this year, we had mostly good weather, the seas were pretty calm all the way, most days were sunny but breezy as expected and cool mid Atlantic but if you could find a spot out of the wind nice enough to sit out with a layer or two, each port day was sunny and temperature around the mid 60's but much warmer in Lisbon when it was really lovely. Bilbao was warm and sunny as was Cherbourg. It was a nice cruise to do and we would definitely do it again.

It actually is just like weather where you live. May be good. May be poor.

We were on one April TA where the water was so calm it was like sailing on glass and you had to look carefully at the water to make sure the ship was even moving.

However the Captain made an announcement one day that a Princess ship was on the same path four days ahead of us and it had stormy weather and rough seas for most of the journey.

We've taken 3 spring ta's on the Ruby. One was very smooth. On the other two we ran into storms, and we had a couple rough days. By the time we got to our first port one wall of our balcony had an inch of dried salt on it from the high waves and winds--we were on Baja deck which is deck 11!

There is no way to predict the weather that far out.

We're on that with you! Our first TA! We did Cape Horn in January, knowing it could be really rough, we took along the new 24hr, non-drowsy Dramamine! That stuff was magic! We had a day with 80kt winds & 20' swells, and we were fine! Lots of the crew was turning green, but not us! ;p Even our very experienced cabin steward clung to her cart all day trying to stay upright and fighting off the "waves of green" that washed over her, she was surprised that we were fine!

We've done 5 April TAs, mostly from Ft. Lauderdale to Copenhagen. This past spring was the worst weather we've experienced. Rained almost all the way to Ponta delgado, Azores. Plus too rough to stop at Horta, Azores (a tender port) on our HAL ship. Except for Cherbourg, where it poured all day, the weather was much better around Europe. On prior TAs the weather was much better so hopefully you'll have good weather next spring!

I was not asking for an exact weather forecast rather a range of what the temps have been in the past going across the Atlantic.

Weather is normally fair until you past the Azores which has nice fair weather then depends which direction, on year we headed to Dublin & the sailing was very foggy with weather cold to moderate chilly.

We went on one last year from Fort Lauderdale to Hamburg. We are Princess Elite members from Southern CA, but have done mostly 7 days and shorter. We did one Mediterranean 10 day and it was very good. The first couple of days were pool days, but then it turned cool. But, it was very smooth. In fact, the captain said it was the smoothest Northern Transatlantic he'd sailed. I'm 53, and I found it a little slow. The entertainment wasn't very good and we found ourselves in the casino most nights. I read quite a few books and watched a few movies. I joined the spa and went daily for the different saunas and hot tub. The food was excellent, so we must have had a great chef. I also made it to the gym a few days a week as well. Bring warm clothes because despite what our phone apps said, it was very cold once we got to Europe. I wasn't prepared coat wise and had to layer quite a bit. We went on from Hamburg to Amsterdam. In fact it dipped into the 30's at night in Amsterdam and mostly high 40's during the day. We lucked out with no rain, except for a little in Hamburg. This year, we are attempting the Southern route (even though I said I wouldn't do it again). I think because it heads straight from Florida to Spain, it will be warmer so I'll have more pool time! Plus, I really want to go to Spain! Hope this helps!

I prefer Fall TA's but I've done both at least 6 times and had all kinds of weather. As a general rule, the Florida to Spain or vicinity is a pretty nice cruise. I took the Regal from Florida to Copenhagen in April, we had great weather and not a wide of range of temperatures. The following Baltic cruise was the same way, warmer than normal, it was rather shocking actually.

We have done three and it wasn't too bad but we did miss Bermuda two times because we could not dock due to gale force winds. The first two days leaving fll are nice ànd warm. We had booked the Sanctuary but only used it for three days, then it was too cold to be out. Poor staff had to stay up there and had jackets but we're freezing. Just plan to be inside and bring a fleece jacket. Best to layer.

You will enjoy it warm weather or not.

We're on the Windstar Star Pride San Juan to Lisbon April 7th. Just wondering how a smaller ship like the Pride takes the Atlantic in April. Last year we were on Holland America's MS Amsterdam round trip to Hawaii and had pounding seas just about every day. Doesn't bother my wife or myself. Navy veteran here. But, just curious about a ship that is half the length and one fifth the tonnage as the MS Amsterdam? Any info would be appreciated.

Done two TAs both Eastbound on Southerly route via the Azores. One was lovely and calm. The other we had a storm almost straight from when we left Tampa and another in the Bay of Biscay - you can't tell. I will say you can guarantee it will get cooler the further North and East you go especially after the Azores or Madeira.

Thanks for the info. However, I was specifically interested in knowing how the smaller yacht type Star Pride rides in the seas. This would be for people who have sailed with her or one of her sister ships the Star Breeze or the Star legend.
