Alesund Town Train or HOHO

Recommended Posts

Has anyone done the train or the HOHO? Which would be the best choice in Alesund? We are leaning towards the train as it looks like it is easier to get onto. My husband has difficulty walking, so the easier the better.

Where does the train leave from? I found something that said it leaves from the cruise ship terminal and something else that said it leaves from Dronning Sonjas Plass.

It leaves from the terminal but only during morning hours, after that it doesnot come to the terminal anymore.

The ""train"" - of course isnot a real train, a fake loc with some open wagons. http://www.visitalesund-geiranger.com/en/Product/?TLp=33586

We decided to take the bus as it was warmer and more comfortable. The bus also leaves from the terminal, during the whole day.

I donot think there is much difference between boarding bus or train.

It is a great way to see much of the city, get out at the viewpoint at Mt. Aksla and take the next bus/train after that.

As you can see the route is slightly different. The HOHO includes the Open air museum and the Aquarium.

Alesund is a very walkable town. You don't need to take the HOHO bus to see the center of town or most of the famous architecture. We were there on Norwegian National Day (and a Sunday) and it wasn't running anyway.

Unless you are in a excellent good condition to walk up the many, many steps to get to the awesome viewpoint of Mt. Aksla, you better take the hoho bus or tram.
