Just Peachy Liberty Canada/NE Cruise

The following is a review of my September 10 Canada/ New England Liberty of the Seas cruise. This is my experience and my opinion only. You certainly may have had a different experience and opinion which is perfectly fine.

We are a mature Diamond Plus couple on our 39th cruise -- 30 with RCCL. This was our third sailing on Liberty and first on this itinerary.

We drove the four hours to Cape Liberty, NJ the morning of the cruise arriving around 11:00 a.m. We parked in the lot right across the street from the terminal. The new garage is not finished yet but looks near completion. We walked in and were immediately called to a check in desk. From there we just kept walking right onto the ship. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

That first exciting glimpse of the ship - even through the raindrops

Boarding

We headed directly to the Windjammer where we easily found a table.

By the time we left though, tables were mighty scarce.

My usual boarding day lunch is a good ole' Southern one -- chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans.....yum

There must be dessert!

Next we checked our dining room table for two. It was indeed on a rail on deck four as requested; however, it was on an inner rail stuck in between two service areas. That turned out to be a heavy traffic area with wait staff running back and forth with carts. I didn't even try to change tables as I have never had luck in doing so on any past cruise. We just went with it and made the best of it. Jonathan and Dominic were our wonderful servers. We finally had a head waiter who actually stopped by our table every night and worked his butt off. Habib was in fact the best we have ever had in 39 cruises!

I have a ton of food porn and will post some of the photos here and there throughout my review.

Our cabins were available around 1:30 p.m. I had snagged corner aft cabin 1700 which was very spacious with the square shape and as large as a junior suite. The balcony is huge. We occasionally heard some noise from the Windjammer above but nothing that would deter me from booking it again.

Since I have two more photo slots left, I'll post these here. With four days left, I signed up to use our free minutes and saw these deals available in case anyone is interested.

We have Cabin 1700 in two weeks on Liberty! Cannot wait for your full review even if our itineraries are quite different! So excited to see how huge our room and balcony are! Great start!!

The size of the cabin is amazing plus the balcony. I know you will enjoy it. Have a Happy Anniversary! We celebrated our 32nd on Liberty.

Entertainment:

I liked CD Dru Pavlov and enjoyed his jokes before each theater performance. There were no reservations for any shows. The ice skating show was by muster station and they did check sea passes. In addition, there was an open show on the last afternoon for anyone who wanted to attend. Saturday Night Fever was open to anyone.

The Ice skating show is one of my favorites and this one was as good as any I have seen.

A headliner a cappella group was good.

In the Air was very good and entertaining.

I enjoyed Saturday Night Fever very much.

Something new (for me) on RCCL was Dancing with the Stripes. I had seen it listed in the program on our Celebrity Summit cruise in August but missed it. I will never miss this again as it was a hoot! I hope they have it on all RCCL ships now.

Celebrity has been doing Dancing with the Stripes since at least my March 2010 Mercury cruise. Funny that RCCL is copying them.

I was in it last year on Celebrity Summit, came in 3rd. Thanks for the review and pictures. I will be on Liberty 2 weeks from today.

Royal did Dancing with the Stripes on our Voyager TA back in Oct/Nov 2011. Excellent show and very much fun.

You are welcome. If RCCL copied, it's a good thing but they are the same company. Enjoy your cruise!

I can't believe I never noticed that listed in the compass on any of my RCCL cruises!!

Okay, I'd never seen or heard of it on Royal before. It is one of our favorite things to attend (or participate in).

I've never seen it on any other Royal cruise. I also wish they would do it more. I would guess that it takes a good amount of time to practice the dance routines, which they probably had on the transatlantic.

Yours must have been different. On Liberty it was off-the-cuff with randomly chosen passengers and hilarious.

On ours, each couple consisted of a ship's officer and one of the professional dancers. They were serious and practiced for days before their performances. The dance routines were excellent. They had two preliminary competitions in Studio B to get the number of couples down to 3, and then did the final competition in the main theater.

This is how Celebrity does it. There's no practicing. You sign up 15 minutes beforehand.

I think when they very first started it back in 2009 or 2010 they did pick people at the beginning of the cruise and practiced but that went out the window very quickly and it became off-the-cuff.

Where was I?........oh yes

The Solarium has no cover so it was generally very cool in there. We did use the hot tubs a few times.

We watched folks on the Flowrider a couple times. It was chilly and not many were braving it. Also, there were very few children on board.
