Portovenere

We will be calling into Portovenere in September and today we received the Travel Panner :):) So exciting :D:D

Portovenere has been shown as a Tender port but on checking the area I see that Spezia is the port often used by cruise ships and is a deep water port which can take the biggest ships.

Does Seabourn not use Spezia? and if not why not? Tendering is such a pain!!!!. J

Last year we anchored in the beautiful inlet near the harbour of Portovenere. The tender ride was less than 10 minutes.

We could see the port of La Spezia, and the mammoth cruise ships in port, from Sojourn and it was quite some distance away.

I have called at both Portovenere (on Seabourn) and La Spezia (on HAL). We tendered in at both - La Spezia has limited cruise piers, so docking is not guaranteed. Portovenere is much nicer. It is a beautiful, walkable town easily accessible to the Cinque Terre via ferry adjacent to the tender pier. La Spezia is an unattractive industrial port city whose claim to fame is being the home of the Italian navy.

  • 3 weeks later...

The ferry ride from Portovenere to Cinquterre can be very rough. It is also possible to take a taxi to the train and get to Cinqueterre that way. I'd check out the seas before selecting a route, particularly if someone in the party is prone to seasickness!

When you were in Monte Carlo where exactly did you dock?? We intend to use public transport from Nice and so do not wish to finish up in the wrong place.. We think know where the ship docks but.................. Judith
