Breakaway April 5 - 12, 2015

Palermo

Beautiful from what I've heard! I have a friend at work who grew up near Palermo. I've only been to Florence and Rome but I loved it when I went! I would love to tour Italy someday and start up north (part of my family originates from Trentino-Alto Adige), then work my way south and also see Sicily. I teach high school level Italian, and some of my students just went on a trip to Italy for Spring break with a few teachers as their chaperones. I have elementary school aged children so I spend my breaks with them, and I don't chaperone the trips to Europe. The trip went to Venice, Verona, Florence, Rome, Assisi and Pompeii. The students really enjoyed it! A few years back my colleague did an exchange trip to her old high school and some of the students from Sicily also came here for a week. I chaperoned a trip with them to the Museum of Natural History in NYC and they were all really wonderful, both the students and their teachers! :)

I teach high school English and also organise Italian courses for American college students. Most colleges send their students to Florence but PALERMO is so much richer in history and culture, it's an open museum.

I'm a Cambridge examiner and prepare students for the First exams, Ielts and toefl

Wow that's terrific! My college (University of Maryland) sent students to Florence, but I didn't study there, I just visited. I had no room in my schedule to study in Italy because I also majored in Spanish and I would have lost an entire semester of Spanish and not graduated on time...I didn't have the money for an extra semester of college.

When our students went to Sicily, they really enjoyed it. An exchange trip is such a wonderful opportunity! I hope to do an exchange trip one day when my children are in high school, and bring them along.

We had made reservations for Cirque, Rock of Ages and Second City on the April 5 -12 cruise. We were only told that Rock of Ages no longer had reservations. The other ones still did.

Do make sure to make your excursion plans before you get on the ship...some were sold out.

Also when going to Great Stirrup Cay you want to think about how early you want to get there...you can sign up for early Tinder boats (or just go tothe theater and go with the herd) We went a bit later and had to walk (or take tram) to the farthest Lagoon Beach to find a place to sit.

There was also some way to sign up for the little "clamshell" beach chairs (that had shade) ahead of time...I didn't know that.

  • 2 weeks later...
We were in a mini suite on deck 10. I couldn't believe how big the bathroom was 😊. It's been two weeks since the end of our cruise to the Bahamas. It was fabulous.

The Breakaway left today on the first Bermuda cruise of the season. It makes our July cruise feel that much closer now! :)

We went on the breakaway in March 2014 and had no trouble getting into any shows without a reservation. Back then the people with reservations were able to get into shows early and the standby line could enter 10 minutes before show time. We were able to see every show and second city multiple times using the standby line. I have no concerns about seeing the shows on my June 2015 breakaway trip even if they cancel my reservations.

Thanks for your review. We had an amazing time on the Breakaway last year. The crew are wonderful and the ship is amazing.

My daughter loved the Garden Cafe and we ate there during breakfast and lunch. We would also stop by for crepes after dinner. :)

Wow, they have crepes every night? That's amazing!! I'll have to try that for sure. What were the filling choices?

Yes, they have it every night in the Garden Cafe. :D Fillings include blueberry, strawberry, apple, peach and were made fresh to order. They also have whipped cream and chocolate syrup.

Hi, I just had to write this review about my cruise experience on NCL Breakaway. The Breakaway cruise was out of this world fabulous. The food was wonderful, the rooms spacious--we had a mini suite, the entertainment was top notch. But the best thing was the staff! I cried when it was over and I had to say goodbye to all the gracious people who work so hard for us. This cruise gets a 10/10 with merit.

Glad to hear that you had such a positive experience on the Breakaway. We will be sailing on her for the first time, in fact, our first NCL cruise on August 9th. I saw another not so positive review earlier- but the complaints had to do with the Casino- which we never use and a cigar gratuity charge, again not for my DH as his father died from Esophageal CA- so a no smoking cruise would be ideal for us!

Looking forward to a new adventure.

1. Did they have a lobster night in any of the venues?

2. Best location for viewing the fireworks?

3. Do they still take reservations on board for Cirque? Our group is staying on three different ressies, so I am afraid if I try to do it online, they will have us seated in different areas!

Glad to hear you had a great trip!

Just wondered. Did you notice any option for a curtain to be put between the couch/beds to break the room up a bit? We are thinking about going with a mini suite and bring my daughter and her friend but we'd like to provide them and us with some privacy if needed when getting around. Any suggestions anyone?

We were on the same sailing as the OP and we also hand a fantastic cruise. This was actually our first NCL cruise and as a result have three more booked.

The crew were wonderful. We travel with my 83 year old handicapped Mom and they went out of their way for her. The restaurant staff were soooooo patient with her - she has become such a picky eater - and I did not pick up on any agitation on their part at all. Me on the other hand :D.

Anyway, can't wait to sail her again to Bermuda in August.

Happy sailing all!
