Am I being silly

I guess this is for the non casual gamblers. I do not like to pay for rooms, cruises, food, drinks, ect. I would rather use that money for gambling obviously and I get enough points for Vegas comp rooms and free carnival cruises. I get around 9k points on each carnival ship although I know others here dwarf my points. It seems like lately the carnival hosts do not much try and you have to ask for perks else they ignore you. I remember a couple years ago on the liberty the host would go out of his way to talk to me but these days they ignore you. My last cruise on the Vista the host sent numerous items to my room including 2 cucina meals and $50 for bonsai sushi. I am on the magic now with over 5k points on day 2 and I had to ask if I could be comped anything. The new host thought about it and said steakhouse which I do not even know if I can get into because lack of clothes. At over 7100 points I was told I had received enough. Huh. This is my 19th cruise and either carnival went super cheap or the new host has not learned how to pamper her serious gamblers. Am I being silly or are they going cheap. I cashed out and said no more casino for me if this is how it goes. Thx

I have to agree...I consider myself a medium roller and got perks without asking...as you mentioned now I have to beg for comps. For the first time in many cruises was not offered a bounceback on our last cruise on the Paradise a few weeks ago. I got some cruise play repeat offer on no drinks on us card. Maybe because we had a Premier already booked and now have a Ultra booked. If I get snubbed on these next two it will be back to the land based casinos in good ole Biloxi, MS for me. Am actually going there over the 4th of July weekend with flight, hotel, shows...all comped and oh yeah the drinks are free while gambling.

Cheers and happy gambling

And it continues. She said when I got to 3k points I could get cucina for two. I could not take the steakhouse so I got back cucina. I am at 10k points and not one thing has been sent to my room. I tried to give them another chance but I am done with this casino. If u sail the magic then expect nothing ever.

Just tell the host the day and time you'd like to go to the Steakhouse or Cucina and they'll arrange it. We've never gotten anything in the cabin.....just arranged date/time and showed up

Also at 5,000 points you automatically get the DOU card on your next cruise .....at the points you're at you'll prob get cash as well. Always email the casino dept after your cruise to see what perks/comps you'll qualify on your next cruise

Also if you get a BB but can't use it the casino Dept will give you cash on your next cruise as long as its not a casino cruise

In the case of NCL (on which we are medium-high rollers) the problem is that the cruise line has left their casino hosts with few options in the way of things they can do for their casino guests. Because NCL has created the "ultimate dining package" and "ultimate beverage package" and gives them away to almost everyone, there is little reason for the casino hosts to offer comped specialty dinners anymore - that's something they used to routinely give out.

They still send little treats to room (on our last cruise we ate chocolate strawberries until we couldn't stand the sight of them anymore), but they don't seem to send bottles of wine the way they used to...just one bottle of awful sparkling wine on our last 7 day cruise. They used to comp my DW spa treatments..now all they do is write off the charge on the final bill, which I realize is much the same thing, but it's not done with the same "We'll do something nice for you in exchange for your gambling" attitude.

They are still able to wipe off a certain percentage of on board charges on the final bill, but the formula by which they do that seems to have been tightened up quite a bit, and the casino hosts seem to have a lot less latitude in making adjustments.

One casino host said 10k points is worth $100 in comps. I had to turn down the steakhouse for two and took cucina which is less than half the cost. Should I ask for another cucina using their logic? We only used $30 in comps for 1

1k points.

I feel you. Solid medium roller and over the last few years the land perks I get from LV casinos have improved while Carnival and Princess casino offers and perks have declined. That, plus the lack of transparency and inconsistency re:perks and offers, has me re-thinking my strategy. A shift to the ships' casinos as more for a little entertainment and save serious gambling for my trips to The Venetian.

I got my bounceback offer today with the usual BS of a sailing up to 15 days in the next 3 months. My homeport of Port Canaveral offered only 3 cruises all 4 days or less and the 2nd closest port of Tampa offered 0 cruises. At least I can finally move over to RC or NCL because the carnival offer is not usable.

On our first NCL cruise, before they started giving nearly everyone free perks, we bought the Ultimate Dining Package but were paying for drinks (except in the casino since it was a comped cruise and we did receive drink cards). When I leveled up, the host wanted to comp us dinner, but I explained that we had the UDP, so she gave us bottles of wine for each of the remaining nights in the specialty dining restaurants. That seemed like a very reasonable option given the circumstances.

You're right, though. Now with us selecting SDP and UBP, there's little that's been offered by the casino hosts. The only thing I did get was a bunch of stuff comped off our onboard account at the end of the cruise, so I guess it's still something, but it feels much less personal.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just off the three night Carnival Liberty and had over 7800 points. For a short cruise, a good number but only got the Cruise Repeat offer for $100 interior. Since I have four RC cruises booked, I think I will skip this and wait for a better offer. I did receive a free bottle of wine on the last evening and won a nice size jackpot that exceeded my losses so a nice cruise.

The Bounce Back letter is much harder to use this year. Cant pick your own cruises any more. Its only what they have open on your deal calender, and only have 3 or 4 months open(not 6). Also very limited as to embarkation port, & amount of days-mostly 3 or 4!!!! We have one from May, that we couldnt use, & still have one more week, for another one-nothing good out there!
