5 passenger deal not showing on website?

Recommended Posts

We, a family of 5 adults, are searching for a very late deal for a couple of weeks time.

Entering 5 passengers brings up a single cruise option where 3 of us would be placed in a Royal Suite cabin and the others in a standard inside cabin at a cost per person of 1261 pounds!

Searching again, but increasing the party number to 6 brings up another cruise where 3 inside cabins are available at a more agreeable 883 pounds per person.

We don't really want to pay '5 for the price of 6' but there doesn't appear to be a single room supplement option?

Do a mock booking for the same cruise for 1 passenger. You may find there are no single cabins available which is why you are being quoted for a 3 and a 2. The 3 double insides are cheaper but Thomson are very reluctant to sell a double for single occupancy if they have a chance of selling it to 2 people. Two people spend more money aboard.

You are suffering from trying to book far too close to the sailing date.

Thank you....

Unfortunately we have to book late as we are all employed and for various reasons have had to wait for clearance to get the same holiday dates. This year is particularly difficult as we have a very small window of just 3 days within which we can set sail. The positive, if you can call it that is when we do finally get sorted the relief is akin to winning £100 on a scratchcard:p

I've called Thomson and there are various reasons for the search facility throwing up different offers one of which is availability of seats on the plane despite their being cabins available.

Doesn't make sense there must be 5 seats available on the plane if you are being offered any variety of cabins - you mention a royal suite and an inside for 5 persons

Try the TA if you're getting no where with Thomson on the phone some of them don't know what they're doing

Whilst they are being very helpful it's clear that the customer service agents are well briefed to give an answer without actually being able to do anything to help.

Not being able to pay a supplement for single use of a double cabin without having to pay full whack for an empty seat on the plane doesn't help. Finding that a cabin is advertised as 2 berth with an option for occupation by 4 people to be told that it only applies for under 12 year olds, the same.

By my way of thinking the cruise is all inclusive so paying a premium for single use of the double cabin should offset any loss of the 'missing' passengers on board spend. The seat on the plane can probably be sold, there are no agents fees involved we have 4.5k in our pocket to spend and Thomsons don't want to take it.

Yes

We tried and it turned out to be a somewhat comical experience!

Had we paid for the double room as advertised it would have cost us £755 x 2 = £1510

Booking through the TA as a single room 1 x £1430 a saving of £80

However, in order to take advantage of this fantastic reduction we would have to split the booking putting the remaining 4 persons on another 'order'. Doing this increased the per person cost from £755 to £920 as we'd receive no online discount.

To save you getting your calculators out we'd have been paying £580 quid:loudcry: more than if we paid for 6 in the first place.

Oh dear - it was worth a try though - what are you going to do now?

We've booked a 5 night stay in a boutique hotel in Majorca half board for just over £2k including flights.

Not quite what we wanted but need a break and will put the money saved towards our next cruise......with P&O lol;p

Glad you've got something and hope you all have a great time BUT don't desert Thomson just because you couldn't get the late booking you wanted - they are so popular and most people do book early to get the ship and cabin they want I know you couldn't do that but could you have gone with P& O this late?

We won't desert Thomson. :DOne of the positives of this exercise was that we looked at other cruise lines and couldn't find one that ticked the same boxes. In fact we couldn't really get a feel for any of the others apart from P&O and are none the wiser about the many differences of each provider?

No we couldn't have travelled with P&O that late.
