Young adults/children Cabin

After 2 hours on phone NCL won't book my kids ( 18 and 16) in a cabin next door? I am being told the policy has changed, they are stricter and kid/young adult cabin has to be either a connecting cabin or just place one adult in each cabin. We'd book with one adult in each cabin.. but, with the drink package promotion, the costs change dramatically if we split up. We've cruised with NCL 4 times in 2015 ( 3 were weekends) - and had no booking problems. Any input? Thanks!

The only difference I see is the kids would get the soda package rather than a different promo. What promo were you planning for the kid's cabin if they were separate? Were you planning on booking them as a guarantee?

the kids room had their choice of wifi or maybe we'd use the prepaid service charge offer - we did not decide. We were not planning on a guarantee for any of us. The available cabins were exactly next door ( just no connecting door inside) and they would not let us book without an over 21 in each cabin.. making us pick the beverage package for both cabins .. useless to the non-drinking kids -who'd much prefer wifi. ( additionally, we were thinking of one balcony cabin and one inside cabin - non-guarantee, across the hall - but, they still won't permit this now.)

More importantly, its this strict "policy" that I am being told is now enforced.

I don't really see that as a "dramatic" price difference. Buy a $125 internet package or pay the $189 gratuities, at least your kids can drink soda if they want it. Yes, it's unfortunate NCL has been inconsistent enforcing this rule, but I can see their reason for having it.

Hi there we are on the NCL jewel dec 9 and have kids aged 17 and 14 in one room and us in the other! We were told they needed to share a wall?

Don't they let you chose the package for EACH person that is one and two in each room? So for one cabin, one adult chooses beverage/one more and the kid choses internet/one more. The other room the other adult chooses beverage/one more and the kid chooses what you want them to.

A soda package is pretty cheap if you decide to buy that one. The free gratuties is worth a lot more.

Or just get connecting cabins.

No whatever package you choose remains the same for passengers 1 & 2, The only difference would be is with the drink package (Under 21 will be given soda package) and internet is applied to passenger 1 only.

If you are entitled to 2 perks on a cruise then yes you get 2 but you cannot split perks up by category.

For instance: If you get 2 perks then yes if adult chooses UBP then 2nd adult automatically gets UBP (or child gets soda package). You would still be entitled to another perk (SDP & Prepaid gratuities are (good for 2 people) WiFi is good for 1 person.

What you cannot do is is order the prepaid gratuities & have passenger 1 ordering the UBP and passenger 2 ordering the UDP (This would be 3 perks instead of 2)

I do miss the Kevin Sheehan perks when they included everyone in the room (except for tips).

I hope that makes sense.

Must have been at the very beginning of the promo (January-March 2015). By April 2015 they had added the condition "All guests must have the same choice" and then "All Guests in stateroom must choose same offer", and it has remained that way ever since.

I talked to 3 PC's, and none of them would let me book a connecting cabin with my dd20 as the first pass passenger. I've heard it can be done her, but they said no, if we had 2 people over 21, we would need to put them as the primary passengers in both cabins.

It is true per NCL official policy.

https://www.ncl.com/faq#age-requirements

When they are willing to bend/break their own rule is what is being questioned.

I had never noticed that exemption for married under 21's

Maybe you are not reading what I am reading but it clearly states if a 21 yo is in a connecting cabin minors can booked by themselves.

Company policy dictates that a passenger under 21 years of age must be accompanied in the same or connecting stateroom by a passenger 21 years of age or older at the time of embarkation.

Possibly they are going to adhere to their policy or, like other things, one PCC adheres to the policy, while another one doesn't. Try calling again.

Which amounts to exactly what BirdTravels said, because the OP does not have connecting cabins.

But what mjkacmom reported is also relevant, because even if you have connecting cabins, NCL has difficulty booking the kids in their own room. It requires some kind of work-around or override, maybe they have to get a supervisor to intervene, and some inexperienced or lazy agents may take the easy way out and make you book an adult in each room.

I wouldn't have accepted that in mjkacmom's case, but the OP's case is different, because they don't have connecting rooms. They can try talking to someone else, or finding a TA to fight for them, but if NCL has decided to start enforcing their policy, they'll eventually have to accept "no" for an answer.

Are there no connecting cabins they can switch to?

You are required to have someone over 21 in every cabin.

No they stated you were required to have a 21 yo in every cabin and that is not true per NCL's written policy.

Hi, same for me but they were very helpful when I called back. I have 2 adults in one cabin and 4 teens in the other cabin. We booked 2 balconies so each cabin received 2 incentives. Each cabin has different incentives. Here's what they had to do and perhaps you can reference these steps when calling back:

I wanted the 4 teens to have the free prepaid grats and free passenger 3 and 4.

I wanted my boyfriend and I to have the UBP and the UDP.

Since there would be a price difference to have 1 adult booked in each room, and get the same incentives, I wanted to handle this now rather than wait at guest services on day 1 ---- They had to book us with a connecting wall....not connecting rooms, but we had to have a shared wall since none of the teens were 21. The NCL associate was on the other line with their IT specialist for almost an hour while I stayed on the line. She was very informative letting me know every so many minutes that she was still working on it with them to update her reservation system. I had patience with this process because I wanted it fixed before I checked in on the ship---and we all know what a pain that would be for the first hour of our cruise trying to fix something at guest services.

After that phone call, I decided I needed to have my UBP and enjoyed a glass of wine while I viewed all the corrections on the NCL site.

Good luck and I know you will get it to work out:)

You made the right call. I don't think this is something you could have fixed on board. You can switch people between the two rooms if you want, but I don't believe the perks get reassigned according to the new sleeping arrangements. So you would have been stuck with only one UBP (and one soda package).

For the NCL rep , the work around is changing the birthdate of one of the minors so they are at least 21. that allows you to login and set up checkin ..

After checking in online change the birthdate of that minor back so it matches

their boarding credentials.. Easy peasy ;)
