What does 18+ translate to?

For the few activities in the Navigator listed as 18+ (example, the couples game or if there were an adult comedy show), should that be interpreted as potential R-rated content (language, inuendos, etc)?

We are very conservative--as in even my husband and I don't watch PG-13 and some PGs are too crass for our comfort. So when we cruised with Norwegian we were uncomfortable at most of the evening shows (immodesty, inuendos). During the times we have the kids in Oceaneer, I'd like to have the option of doing the 'grown-up' stuff, but I want to be prepared.

My assumption is that since it's Disney, it'll be ok, but I've been burned by that before. Btw, things like the pirate deck party really will be kept true family friendly (as in, we can keep the 4 1/2 year old up that night without concern for her), right?

The pirate deck party is fine for kids. Nothing inappropriate there.

I would say that the adult evening activities may be a bit racy if you are uncomfortable with PG-13 content. Not all are that way, of course, but if something is marked as 18+, it is either because of the content or because they are trying to preserve some kid-free activities just for the adults.

Perfect, thanks!

We are definitely "sweetness and light" sorts...well, ok, so I'm less so than my husband. We watched a light little competition show called Relative Race and the finale had him so stressed he said he should stop watching even that, lol. So if it's even a hint of "adult" he'll squirm. Sounds like we'll skip the 18+ and watch Frozen again, haha.

I still think that DCL will be our best bet for feeling like we belong as non-drinkers, etc.

None of the shows would be considered R rated, but you will find with the adult shows, there is a family friendly show, and an adult show later, that the magician or comedian will use innuendos to press the point, but not over step it going past PG13, and never using curse words.

I think if your husband is so easily made uncomfortable, it would be best as you say to avoid the Match Your Mate shows and all of the adult shows.

Depending on the ship (which you did not mention and always helps if you do!), there are family Mickey and friends pirate shows and a later show that appeals more to a mature crowd shall we say. Nothing offensive, but some little ones do not like sword fighting or even Captain Hook.

The fireworks are always as late as possible so it is dark, so around 9-10:30pm depending on the itinerary and time of year.

I'm one to avoid crude shows myself, comedians that can't get through a sentence without a four letter word for example. I've yet to encounter any material or show on a DCL show that offended me or made me wish I'd skipped it. This is one reason we pay the premium price to sail on these ships. They are different in a good way.

DCL tends to be quite "clean," even in their adult shows. More happens by innuendo than by spoken word....which is actually true on their kid movies as well.

The one show you would probably want to avoid is "Match Your Mate," DCL's version of The Newleywed Game. While DCL's part is clean, you never know what will come out of the mouth of a contestant!

Yes, pirate night is completely clean at all shows. The later show is more Hollywood pirates (fake violence) while the early show is Disney characters. Of course, in both, good always wins and Mickey saves the day.

I've had brief moments at some of the stage shows when costumes seemed a little skimpy and I found myself wondering whether they had always been that way or whether this was a slightly altered design line. But honestly, I've seen more exposure at the adult pool and on formal night than on a Disney stage. You know a guest's formal wear is inappropriate when teens comment on it in a negative fashion!

The one time I saw a comedian go "over the top," the CD escorted him off the stage. Rumor was that he'd done the same thing at the first show and had been warned. In any event, one "bad word" and he was gone. We didn't see him for the rest of the cruise and DCL has never booked him again.

I just read techie's response and saw that he essentially said the same thing--sorry to duplicate.

While I would agree that DCL's part is clean, as a two time participation in MYM, the DCL host does everything to encourage getting as good a response as possible out of the guest. Take it for what it's worth.
