Are visas required for South Pacific?

We are considering a 45-day cruise out of San Diego on HAL that includes lots of islands in the South Pacific. I am wondering if we will need visas for this? If so, how long does it take to get them?

Most of the various island groups are independent nations. We did not need visas for the Cook Islands, Niue, Tonga and French Polynesia (Tahiti). We hold American passports. I don't know about the other islands.

Are you booking independently or through a travel agent? Most cruises will state upfront if you need any visas when you book them. The only one that took a long time to get was the one from Brazil. Usually a couple of months is more than enough time. Even the Russian one only took four weeks.

We did the Cooks, Samoa Islands, Fiji, Pango, Pango, Tuamotus, Society, and I thinking a couple of others and there were no visas required.

In addition to French Polynesia we've also been to Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu. We also have US passports and haven't needed any visas.
