Any advice for a beach day in Kona? Nothing offered from the cruise line. Is there transportation available?

There really aren't many great beaches on the Kailua-Kona side of the island as it is mostly lava. However there is a nice beach downtown. It is small but nice and it is right where the Ironman Triathalon starts. Not sure but I suspect you tender there so I don't know where they let you off. Body Glove does some superb snorkel tours from there to Kailikaua Bay.
