I loved the itinerary of our circle South America cruise and it's still operating in pretty much the same way as we travelled in 2013, but there are a couple of omissions: most notably the Galapagos Is. The Mariner - or any of Regent's ships - cannot sail to the Galapagos Islands due to their size and this is often on people's 'must do' list for the area. I think ships have to be owned or registered in Ecuador and hold less than 100 passengers to sail in these highly protected waters, but don't quote me on this:).

Some fellow passengers circumvented this by disembarking at Cartagena in Colombia and flying to the Galapagos and Easter Islands then rejoining the ship in Lima for the Machu Picchu excursion. An expensive diversion but it was the only way all their boxes were ticked.

These were travel professionals and with a dream list sometimes mixing it up a bit is necessary. OctoberKat: good luck with yours!

I really do not think of you that way, however, since computerworks is a computer expert, I suppose he is a "geek". I don't think it is a pleasant word -- makes me think of "nerd", "freak", "weirdo" rather than "guru", "techie" or "computer expert". Just looked up synonyms of "geek" and found:

Okay, so this is wildly off topic :eek: .

In terms of South America, we have sailed there twice with Regent and, while what we saw on land was most interesting, we do not like sailing the waters of Brazil. On our last cruise (April), we spent about 5 days sailing off the coast of Brazil. There was minimal entertainment because the Jean Ann Ryan singers and dancers could not perform as they did not have a work permit for Brazil. Chef Kelly became very frustrated because he was not permitted to purchase/load much of the fresh fruits and vegetables that he found on shore. Therefore, the food during those days was lacking. Everyone onboard was very happy to leave Brazil so we could eat again!

IMO, it is becoming more and more difficult to find areas to sail where it is not mobbed with passengers from other cruise ships (the worst obviously being in the Caribbean and Med.) Royal Caribbean has put one of their mega ships in China with more to follow from RSSC and other cruise lines so ship traffic will no doubt increase there.

Still, I find the map most fascinating!

Agree about the Whisper but have serious concerns about the upkeep and sanitation on Silversea ships. Even with the concerns, I would sail on the Whisper again (not to SA).

And, delighted to have your opinion of Whisper. We are cruising aboard her in November, the Amazon out of and back into Barbados.

My post was directed to hondorner who understands where I was coming from. It was a lighthearted, off-topic post that was meant as a laugh - nothing more - nothing less.

Getting back on topic, Silversea does not have any Whisper itineraries that go to South America (at least not through 2016). If they decide to go there, it will unlikely be from the west coast. In fact, when I searched for itineraries going to South America (on any ship), I found nothing.

It's the itinerary that appeals, not the cruise line. As long as I can book a large suite, I'm willing to suffer an ostensible non-luxury line.
