Celebrity Captain's Table invitations

For those fortunate to have dined with the Celebrity Captain or ships senior officers in the past. Has this tradition discontinued as there is no formal nights. If the tradition continues has the dress of the guests at the table changed from formal to chic? What are your experiences? Thanks.

Our last Captains Table was a year ago, before the end of formal nights and most guests dressed in formal wear. Celebrity has dismantled the Captains Table in the MDR and now has Officers Tables in various restaurants. Dress is no longer formal but probably elegant chic.

Yes, it is by invitation. Usually invited are guests in upper level suites, those with a large number of loyalty points, maybe celebrating a milestone anniversary or birthday, a high roller in the casino. We've been invited 4 times, twice for anniversaries, once in in CS and once for no discernable reason, which also happens. We are Elite + with Celebrity which is one level below the highest level of Zenith, which we will never make, but that hasn't entered into our invitations as far as I can tell.

Been lucky enough to dine at the Captains or HD table on the last 10 or so voyages. A few times in a suite, but mostly in steerage (in CC). ELITE + AS well.

The CC hostess usually does the picking from the peeps onboard. I like to think I get invited because I'm utterly charming, but think it might be because I know a few kind people in the Miami executive suite

You can usually see the Officer's guests having a welcome drink before going to whichever specialty (or Luminae, or Blu) they will dine in, and can have a look for yourself. Most people consider it a "dress up" occasion, in my experience. On Solstice in Alaska the Captain often chose Silk Harvest, his favorite restaurant. His group was next to mine, and he sadly had to leave before the main course arrived in order to make it to the "Captain's Toast".

Interesting that Officers can take guests to Blu or Luminae to dine.

I would like to try Luminae, but first I have to be on a Celebrity ship and then get invited! Need to work on those two points! :)

We have been lucky enough to go before elegant chic and after. The after even wasn't quite as formal but the attention from the wait staff was incredible. The dress was not formal at our table ... mainly because I don't think anyone that was invited brought formal clothing. We went to the Tuscan Grille and it was a great meal and very relaxed atmosphere. We enjoyed it immensely.

On our first X cruise in a RS, we were asked to Captain's dinner, in Tuscan Grille. I imagine the Michael's club concierge did the inviting. Two officers and two couples. Very nice dinner. I dressed in cocktail wear and DH wore his suit. Captain and officer had on their dress attire.

Next X cruise was in RS, but traveling with two other couples in concierge cabins next door and we did not get invited. Michael's club concierge knew our activities though with the other couples etc and I'm glad I did not have to chose between my dear friends and the Captain. ;)

Cruising again on X with three other family members and DH in the next few months. We will be in adjoining suites (CS and RS). Will be interesting to see if we (all) get an invite this time.

While dinner with the captain was interesting and we were grateful to be invited, if others really had wanted our places, that would have been ok with us. Would not have traded our memorable dinner in the wine room in Murano with our group of friends for any other dinner. Those were memories for a lifetime.

We have been invited a number of times and always had a lovely evening. The make up of the guest have varied from Suite Guests, CC upper levels and on one occasion a newly wed couple. A number of times we had tablemates in regular cabins and had no idea why they were invited. I expect they impressed the Captain's Club hostess as they were absolutely charming and our favorite couple at the table (besides the Captain of course).

Dinner with Captain or another Senior Officer, is now in Tuscan Grill or Muranos.

Actually, it is held in the restaurant of the officer's choice, including (we were told on our latest cruise) Luminae.

We have only taken part in one Captain's Table since the start of Chic nights and the guests all dressed in formal wear.

We have been fortunate enough to be invited to dine with the Captain both before and after chic night was introduced.

Our last visit was very special as first night on the ship the Captain walked into Tuscan where we were dining, recognised us from a previous cruise and invited us and our son and friends to dine with him later in the cruise.

The icing on the cake for me was that he arranged a 'traditional' Captains Table in the MDR, it was a lovely evening with great table company. Everyone was dressed smartly but not all in traditional formal wear.

We dined a few months ago with the Hotel Director in the Tuscan Grille on Infinity after Chic dress was introduced. It was a wonderful experience. We were in a Celebrity Suite and are Elite. We got the invite from the Captains Club Concierge, not the Michael's Club concierge. But I think they worked together to come up with the invitees. At least that is what they told us. There were both suite and non-suite guests at our table. The non-suite guests were at Elite+ levels.

No, it's still alive and well on our past 2 cruises we were invited to dine withs ship's officers. In May with the Staff Captain and in September with the Chief Engineer. Both dinners were held in Tuscan Grille.

On our last cruise (X-Constellation, May 2016), we were invited to:

1. Captain & Senior Officer Luncheon in Blu. We all had a Bridge Tour and then escorted to Blu to dine with the Captain and Senior Officers. Penthouse and Royal Suite guests were the invitees. PH Ladies were seated beside the Captain, then their husbands, then a senior officer and it alternated with RS guests & Senior Officers from there. The lunch menu was designed by the Hotel Director and prepared by the Executive Chef & his team. It was outstanding.

2. Special invitation to dine with the Guest Relations Manager and the HR Manager. We dined with one other couple in the Wine Cellar of Ocean Liners. Executive Chef Kenny followed up and visited us after we dined.

#1 - we were picked as it was all PH & RS invitees.

#2 - we were picked with one other couple, for whatever reason. I was just happy to participate and enjoy the venue. Very special.

We were lucky to be invited on our first Celebrity cruise and only our third cruise ever. We believe we were invited by the Captain. One night the Captain and my husband started talking. At the end of the conversation he asked for our room number. We couldn't figure out why he asked. We thought maybe to send us something. :D We were new to cruising, didn't know about the Captain's table and we were in a regular balcony room. An invitation showed up later and we figured it out. This was before evening chic and everyone was in a tux or a gown.

We got an invite to the Captain's Table on our second Celebrity cruise. We were in a Sky Suite on Century in Alaska. That was great but the real treat came when we got back to our rooms and had an invite to the bridge the next day when we went to Hubbard Glacier. Everyone from our table was there.

We've been twice. Our first was a surprise. It was a lot of fun - in the main dining room on Infinity. I asked our butler (we were in a sky suite) how they choose. He told us that the captain's club hostess asked all the butlers "who is nice?" And our butler said WE were! The second time the Michael's Club concierge basically told us all one evening that she was going to set it up so that we all had dinner with one of the staff captains if we wanted. So we did. Great wine and most of us got a very small filet and whole lobster tail. Mmm.

I'm glad it will now be in specialty restaurants.

First time (on our first Celebrity cruise no less) - made friends with the Guest Relations Manager at the Welcome back party (we were Elite due to D+ on Royal) and he invited us. Christmas Eve formal dinner - a very memorable occasion

Second time - We were in a RS. Enjoyable, but no way as awesome as the first.

Third time - Have no idea. We were in AQ, no special occasion - perhaps we had good marks from our first 2 dinners?

We were in a RS on a 16 day cruise and weren't invited, so the high-end suites aren't always a guarantee......

Interesting note - we've been on Celebrity 7 times and have 3 invites, Royal Caribbean 19 times and no invites (and we've been in larger suites on RCL, so that's not a guarantee either)

We were lucky enough to be invited to dine with Guest Services manager Cameron on our Silhouette cruise in July. My mum and I and 2 other couples at the Lawn Club Grill after welcome drinks at Cellar Masters. It was our first cruise as Elite and I think it was due to Rossy, the Captains Club host. We had a great time!

I would say 90% of the invitations are directly related to the Captain's Club Host(ess). We have been invited 5 times and 4 of those were because of the Captain's Club Host(ess) the other time was because good friends of ours were good friends of the Hotel Director on board.

We have never been in a suite and actually all the times we have been invited we were in an inside cabin except for our last cruise we were in an oceanview cabin but we are Elite+.
