Hotel near Amtrack station for 1 night in Vancouver

Recommended Posts

Arriving by Amtrack at 11pm from Seattle on a Tueasday. Cruise leaves Wednesday. Need a safe, clean, reasonable place to stay. Suggestions?

You can get on sky train across from the train station and go downtown. So don't limit yourself to right next to the train station.

Btw: it's Amtrak, no c.

No Uber - all cabs charge same price, always metered except inbound from airport so hop in whichever is around at the station on arrival. I never recommend SkyTrain to or from Amtrak, as there is no legal way to transport large suitcases on this line (bags can only go at your feet on on your lap, so bigger than a backpack is basically always going to break the law). While the odds are very low the rules will be enforced since trains are automated, if they are it's a $150 fine compared to less than $10 saving vs. taking a cab - and if you make a fuss our transit cops are, shall we say, rather heavy-handed in their response.

As to which hotel to go to - if you aren't hung up on labels, the best bargain in the region is the YWCA hotel downtown. Clean, well-located especially relative to Amtrak (one of the closest hotels, less than a mile, <$10 by cab), and possibly the safest hotel in the city - some rooms are used for immediate temp housing of battered spouses/kids so security minions are actually competent rather than any old minimum-wager willing to stay awake. NB: it's a full-service hotel, not a hostel, with 'regular' en-suite 2-person rooms as well as larger family rooms and even cheaper shared-bathroom options.

Since I see you were also asking about Marriott hotels for post-cruise, Dennis' answers over there work fine for your pre-cruise night too - should be no more than $12-15 cab ride from Amtrak to any of these. As well as the two he mentioned, there's also the Delta Suites which is now run by Marriott, only about 3 blocks walk from the pier.
