Live from the Voyager (very lite!)

I am not much of a blogger as I am too busy enjoying the good life. I did want to pause in all the pleasure to let people know how things are on the Voyager. They are excellent! We were most recently on the Explorer which is a tough act to follow in our opinion. However service is excellent here on the Voyager. Every crew membe goes above and beyond always with a friendly cheerful attitude. Except for missing the beautiful bathroom and closet this ship compares very favorably.

We feel very lucky to be here. Our excursions have been fun and interesting. Finally got to meet the wonderful famous Olga who is charming.

Our cabin is in a wonderful location (thanks F & P for convincing us to keep it.

Had a very nice casual M & G in the Observation Lounge. There was even someone to serve drinks.

Hi Wes. Our cruise director is Andy Heath. He and his wife are a very warm friendly couple. Shel and I approached Prime 7 from the wrong direction and walked right past it last night even though I knew where it was. Andy saw our bemused look and walked us over to it. He very kindly said it has happened to him.

Hi Gilly. It would be fun if you two were along with us.

Tomorrow is Penang. We decided to switch from the 7 hour tour to one that is only 4 hours. It is very warm here.

Anne sounds like a wise decision to swap the tour! How lovely to meet up with Andy and Tammy again: I wonder if she wished she brought her coat for China? (When we were both on Explorer she was talking about the challenge of packing for so many different climates and had decided to leave her warm coat at home. Hope she made the right decision!)

Hi, Anne - We're relieved that we did not steer you wrong on cabin location. Did you get a chance to visit Gardens by the Bay in Singapore and take a whirl on the Flyer?

Have a great cruise, would like to read more so don't make it lit! But enjoy the cruise first and write when you feel like it.

Hi Ann - you are in a part of the world that we are very familiar with and it is definitely warm in many places (Penang being one of them). They also have a great variety of food but you are likely not there long enough to go to restaurants.

Looking forward to hearing more about your cruise (and the ship refurbishment) whether you are able to post during your cruise or when you get home.

Ann, happy that the cabin worked out. Now on the Explorer off the coast of Italy and posting from the Library. Went to Lucca yesterday - a very pleasant place. Is the Voyager CR menu very similar to CR on Explorer? We really enjoyed the almond-crusted chicken breast in CR last night.

We are still here enjoying. I just lost a very long, detailed post because it said the CC gateway was closed. Don't know what that means but am discouraged for now. Am not a happy poster. Will see if I can remember about doing it in notes and then post it as Rich taught me.

Squeeze, Olga loved getting your greeting. Her face light up and she got a huge smile. She says hello back.

Gilly, Tammy didn't bring coat as she had no room but was fine.

Oh Anne, I sense your frustration very well. I couldn't get into CD this morning either - maybe they were doing some maintenance? Anyway, here's hoping code red is soon overcome and you return to your relaxed and happy selves! Did the Easter Bunny hop by?

Hi Gilly. That was helpful information about you having difficulty getting into CC this am. I guess it was just bad timing for me. Tammy went on our morning excursion with us which was a pleasant surprise. Up until last night no one from the ship was escorting excursions.

In Puket our bus broke down. We waited in the heat for over one hour for a replacement. I asked the tour guide to notify the ship of our problem.. She said she had no way to do that and couldn't go over her boss's head. Not a great response. We finally were on our way and had a lovely cruise in the Pang Nga area. Beautiful scenery complete with James Bond Island.

The crew is doing a great job of coping with code red but it certainly adds to their work. DH is feeling the loss of the daily Sudoku as the library is closed.

Today is Myanmar. These have to be the friendliest people I have ever encountered anywhere in this world.

I do hope this post goes through.

Easter Sunday was a busy day in Myanmar. No Easter bunny but some lovely Easter displays with chocolate bunnies.

We did start the day with a lovely breakfast in Compass Rose complete with Champagne and Caviar. We then did an interesting excursion in the evening that was dinner and a cultural show.

Regent has had some excellent excursions on this cruise. Today we rode in a donkey cart followed by a ride in a trishaw. We then did a tour of a monastery which was filled with families visiting the monks as it is there New Year celebration.

Tomorrow we attend a noviciation ceremony at a different monastery.

Good new. We are out of code red. The dining experience is back to normal.

The Noviciation ceremony was very interesting. It consisted of 10 boys ages 5 to 7 entering the monastery for a period of time. It included much ritual from the shaving of their heads to the donning of the attire. The ceremony was made possible through a donation from Regent as the boys come from poor families. We felt fortunate to witness this event though it was quite hot.

Being on the Voyager continues to be a very delightful experience. Yes, imperfections show up from time to time but this is the real world. For us it is a treat to be able to travel in this part of the world seeing what there is to see but still have life on the ship to return to.

Jackie, you asked about how the Voyager looks. The decor and color scheme is light and airy in feeling. The suites definitely have a fresh look. The blue ceiling lighting at dinner in Compass Rose is not quite my thing. As suggested by Wes we are using part of the bar cabinet under the desk for storage.

Good news for library fans. They have a fresh stock of books. I am now going to settle in with a mindless mystery.

Thank you! Please tell him that we miss him! We'll be on the Voyager twice next year -- hope that he'll be there! Dennis is a very special person (as you know)!

Tomorrow we arrive in Cochin, the start of five days in India. We were here 20 years ago on Song of Flower and look forward to seeing what has changed and what hasn't .

The sea days have been lovely now back to the "work" of seeing other parts of our world. How lucky we are. Thank you Regent for making it doable.
