ideas for private tour of the island? 6 of us and don't need to see every inch of the island just the basics and Anne's house

PEI is a small island, you could likely rent a car and see what you are interested in a day. Besides Green Gables, I'd recommend visiting the birthplace of Lucy Maud Montgomery. It's only a few minute drive from Green Gables and is an interesting little spot.

Charlottetown is a lovely city as well. This year is the 150th anniversary of Canada Confederation and a visit to Province House would be wonderful.
