Travel from La Guardia to the port

Any suggestions on transportation from La Guardia to the port?

We used Dial 7 which you can book online. It is a car transfer service which gave us excellent pick up and delivery to Red Hook Terminal, and after our back to back TA's, back to LaGuardia for the return home. Easy to book, or you can call.

FYI - Dial7 has recently released an app that can be used to summon and pay for the limos, if you're most accustomed to the Uber app approach. (Although we already pre-booked our transfers for our trip next month online)

If you do a bit of searching, you'll find more extensive info, but here's a short summary of options:

• As mentioned, a car service like Dial7. Direct competitors include Carmel and Arecibo. This is our preferred approach for all flights and cruises in NY. (I think ALL offer discount codes for first time customers which are easily found in a search)
  
• Cabs are always an option. Although I have waited in long lines in years past at LGA.
  
• Uber or Lyft are available. Personally, I prefer the experience of cabbies and drivers from services like Dial7 to an Uber kid from five counties away who depends upon his GPS and Waze. Pricing isn't usually better either.
  
• While pubic transit is theoretically possible, I can't imagine using it - especially with cruise luggage.
  

Also (and most of all this is also true of JFK and EWR)

• For those disembarking at Red Hook, Cunard typically offers a shuttle for $50(?). In almost all cases, better and more convenient options exist and we pass on them, but with a 12:45 departure from JFK, we're going to take advantage of the shuttle's early disembark to avoid delays at Red Hook. (Our last crossing had long delays in the customs/immigration lines)
  
• At the airports, you're likely to be approached by "gypsy cab" drivers at baggage claim or the taxi queue. Visitors are usually warned to avoid them and I agree. We've used them twice. Once, we got from JFK to midtown in record time and all was good. On another (in an endless taxi line at LGA eight years ago) we shared a limo with another couple who was going to Washington Heights (we were staying midtown) and we spent a tortuous 3.5 hours in a creaky limo with non-functional AC.
  
• For everything except Cunard shuttles and MTA busses, expect to also pay a bridge or tunnel toll. (From/to Red Hook, only applies to EWR)

Pick up and drop off areas at LAG have changed during the construction chaos. Sorry for repeating myself but please don't rely on previous experience to get you to the pier or back to LAG - it's a new ball game, and the rules are likely to change during the on-going construction. http://laguardiaairport.com/traveladvisories/

Mark's info is comprehensive. Expect delays and congestion at LaGuardia due to construction. We like Dial 7 and have used it a lot.

Totally agree with Dial 7.. We use it all the time in Manhattan with excellent results and professional service.

Negative feelings of Uber....heard too many stories about the unregulated mix of service and personalities. Depends upon the driver you have.

Cunard Shuttle was once experienced and they did not show for us at the airport and we were lucky to share a cab with another couple to the ship. The message did not reach Cunard to send a Host to escort us.

True LaG is experiencing a lot of constructions for the next several years. And the BQE does experience backups....

A reliable car service knows the route and you have a dedicated driver.

After living in NYC for over 30+ years I have not flown in or out of LGA for over 25+ years. It is notorious for delays w/ fog, rain bad layout & roadways. I live in downtown Manhattan so it would actually be easier to get there by car but I always choose JFK or Newark airports just to avoid LGA. The current construction that will last for years will only add to the chaos.

There was a Camelot Inn on Nostrand Ave, corner Ave P in Brooklyn. I lived a few blocks away. I remember the cars double and triple parked outside blocking traffic. The great news is I'm cruising on Victoria August 12. :)

I lived near the Camelot Inn on Quentin Road, but my family moved before I was old enough to go there! (The Camelot Inn often pops up in Brooklyn trivia quizzes - perhaps because it was one of the places that served as inspiration for Saturday Night Fever.)

Its the same place Salacia! Camelot was right in between Quentin Rd and Ave P. It had a bit of a unsavory crowd.. We probably lived just a few blocks away from each other. Small world, but we definitely have something in common! Brooklyn and our love of Cunard. I hope to sail with you someday! I'm sure there is a Mary in both our futures!
