The Window Suite...

We are in F315 now. Very convenient and love the handicapped helps. No step up to bathroom, higher seat, and level shower with seat. DH loves the minis, but the tub is almost impossible for me to use, and even the step up to the bathroom is a problem. I would take this cabin any time to Alaska. I had never booked a handicapped cabin before as I use a walker, not a wheelchair, but this came available after final payment, so I don't feel guilty.:D

If you love minis, but need handicap & no tub...try the aft minis on Dolphin deck on SOME ships.

I believe these cabins are on the Grand, Golden, Star, Diamond, Sapphire and Caribbean. They have an accessible shower but the doors are too narrow to accommodate a wheelchair. Edited September 5, 2015 by IECalCruiser

Nancyquilts, I also use a walker but I also need the grab rails in the bathroom for security and independence. I do, at home, have an over-the-seat toilet raiser with grab handles but the previous tenant also needed the grab rails and they were installed when I moved in.

 

ENJOY THE SUITE WITHOUT FEELING GUILTY! Technically, by needing to use a walker you are "Handicapped" so you qualify for the "Modified" facilities.

 

I also would book the Grand or the Golden Window Suite for an Alaska Cruise, it's on my Bucket List. Was concerned about flying in from Australia and transferring in the airport due to both sight and mobility problems. I can't safely hurry, and finding my way in an unfamiliar place is er-a right challenge! :D A friend, also with health problems is preparing to travel overseas, and her TA has organised a "Buggy Transfer" at the airport for her to save a very long walk. So that would be an option for me too. Some years away yet, planning to do this for my 65th Birthday, yes it will be a "Belated" birthday present as the Alaska cruises don't happen in January but I'll happily wait!

 

For me, yesterday was officially 62 weeks until Embarkation Day. Think all the family arrangements can be fitted in easily, my cousin has a "Dawn Service" commitment on the same day, Remembrance Day here but I don't know if someone else could do it for her, she'll sort it out.

No, that is not correct. The doors are the extra wide handicap doors, both the entry door and the bathroom door.

I think the turning space outside the door, in the corridor, might not be deemed adequate for a wheelchair or mobility scooter user, so the cabins failed to receive certification.

Does anyone know if there are Window Suites on the Ruby Princess ?

The only ships with window suites are Grand, Golden, and Caribbean. Ruby does not have them.

Get prescription issued for Stemetil-due to prescribed medications I won't buy over the counter for fear of a reaction.

 

Make sure all paperwork is printed off and carried in the Cruise Clipboard Folder.

 

Pack.

UPDATE!

In 37 weeks I'll be aboard the Golden Princess en route to Melbourne!

 

Shopping is still mostly in the planning stages, but did, when tidying out a cupboard, find a pair of orange shoes that may do on board-must check the soles. Not good for flying, the strap passes through a metal holder and doubles back on itself to secure with Velcro, but ok for on board if the soles are suitable.

 

1 Hotel accommodation and flights are booked and paid for-with 3 out of the 4 bookings being discounted, much to the TA's amazement, and my delight. Have put the savings towards a relaxing scalp massage on the Sunday afternoon.

 

10 payments to Final Cruise Payment, then 6 to finalise On Board Purchases, Casino, On Board Credit, and Photography Credits, Drink Package, Internet Package and Culinary Delights. Know the total cost, it's just getting the cash transferred.

 

Only known clothing still needed is the rash vest for sun protection. It's our winter season in the shops now, so will "squirrel" the cash and be on alert when the next summer season's stock starts arriving in the shops-have a choice of 2 that are easy to get to for me.

 

Sponge bag is ready to be packed. Medication will be done in October-on the watch for over-the-counter tablets/capsules to come on sale in a suitable size for travelling-and have an expiry date well AFTER the cruise!

Just been checking the Golden Princess Deck Plans, and D737, I think-didn't take notes-the last Mini Suite on the port side, is now showing as Handicapped Accessible in Australia-it didn't for a while. HTH.

Just checked the U.S. website and the last mini on each side on the Golden are now showing as wheelchair accessible. I checked deck plans for the other five ships with these mini's. On the Grand they were also listed as wheelchair accessible, but on the Star, Caribbean, Diamond and Sapphire they were not listed as wheelchair accessible. If you check the wheelchair accessible box on the deck plan page those cabin show on the Grand and Golden but not on the other four ships [emoji848][emoji848] Edited May 19, 2016 by IECalCruiser

Window suites are not for us. Had a bad experience with joggers on the Prom deck at 5 every morning. Thud thud thud. Glasses rattled on the side tables. Horrid. Never again. Room was lovely but not if we don't have a good nights sleep.

 

Princess did nothing to stop the joggers. Not a great experience despite many many complaints to them when on board.

Someday I'm going to book one of those window suites... :D There are a couple of videos on YouTube showing them, and they look great.

We've spent 24 days in WS on the Grand and Golden with no issues with noise from joggers or anyone else. We did have noise issues two nights on the Grand in rough seas. The cabin wall behind our bed was cracking and moaning as the ship rocked in the rough seas but we were able to sleep despite the noise.

I doubt it is HA as it comes up as available for regular bookings where HA rooms usually show as sold unless you tick the box. We have D737 booked in April and there was certainly nothing mentioned about it being HA when we booked.

The cabins we are talking about are D732 and D733 on the Golden. They are the same cabin number on the Grand, Star and Caribbean and cabins D736 and D737 on the Diamond and Sapphire. D737 on the Golden is a full suite.

This was our experience, as well, on our 15 day Hawaii trip last November. The walls creaked so loudly that I was considering giving up our cabin for ANYTHING that was available. We decided to give it one more night and found it not to be such a problem as the seas became calmer. A good pair of ear plugs helped. Never heard joggers or any noise overhead and never smelled smoke from either the Casino or the cigar lounge. I think our cabin #was 311, closer to the Piazza entrance. We're booking a window suite again for next April.

We were in 311 for a Mexican Riviera cruise. Didn't notice joggers or cigarette/cigar smoke. The cabin walls however do creak and moan a lot.
