Just heard from a friend that it was posted on some media thread that Royal Princess is being moved to California? Anyone heard about this or have more info?:D

That would be surprising... Cali coast is where old ships come to die :)

Yesterday there was a thread about Coral Princess going to Asia.

Now Royal Princess to California?

Perhaps the OP can have their friend send them a link to the "media thread" and post it here so that we can judge the credibility of this rumor for ourselves.

Home ported in San Francisco? That would be great.

I hope this is true! Would love the Royal to be on the West Coast!

Me too! :D

It would be great for me to have a Royal-class ship on the West Coast without requiring long flights to Europe or to the East Coast to sail this class of ship. With the Majestic being homeported in China & Australia, it's overdue to have a Royal-class ship here. Hopefully this is true because we greatly enjoy this class of ship even though others will disagree.

Tried, you have to be part of facebook to open/read it...which I am not. She states that the person who posted it works for princess....

I will post as soon as I can on Monday once my friend gets the info off her FB forum.

Fair enough. I guess we do need to allow for the possibility of a big shakeup in deployments for winter/spring 2018-19, as it has already been confirmed that Majestic will be going to Australia only a year and a half after being launched all kitted out specifically for Asia. To me it is bizarre that after only five years Royal would be wintering elsewhere than the Caribbean--now Alaska the follow summer I could believe. But until the dominoes fall, let the rumors fly as they may.

HAHA... true. it was posted on a facebook thing (not part of that) and stated more details to come on Monday!

Princess Facebook? If not, what FB site? My wife has a Facebook account and would use it to search for the information.

It would be good to view the information so I can decide how credible this information is to me & if the rumor could be true.

Finally some good things coming to the West Coast if is true.

For sure Norwegian's newest ship will be here, would be nice if Princess added a newer ship as well. Tired of sailing the same old Carnival rust buckets here on the West Coast

Well with the new locks now at the canal, is possible for Princess to want to move ships around.

Here is the quote from one of Princess Cruises Vacation Cruise Planners who posted this morning on the closed Facebook group "Princess Cruise Lovers (passengers group)" which I belong to:

"It's official ~ Majestic to Australia and the Royal to California. More to follow Monday morning!"

I thought only one set of the locks was finished for bigger ships? That's why CB is only doing partial transit...

I haven't been keeping up with the progress but if i'm not mistaken, the new locks were completed last summer 2016.

Heres from USA Today

Princess Cruises, which offers more voyages into the canal than any other line, recently became the first line to announce plans to use the new locks. The line said its 3,080-passenger Caribbean Princess would operate partial transits of the canal using the new locks starting in late 2017.

The Caribbean Princess' first canal sailing on Oct. 21, 2017 will be a milestone for the cruise industry. Barring a last-minute announcement from another line, it'll mark the first time a "post-Panamax" cruise ship -- one too big for the waterway's original, smaller locks -- has entered the canal. The Caribbean Princess' beam is 118 feet. That's 12 feet wider than the maximum allowed in the older locks.
