Princess Credit Card

Any tips for using and redeeming points on the Princess Credit card? I recently opened a Princess Credit Card account. 1 point for every dollar spent, 2 points for every Princess related expense.

We opened this card last year and have been quite pleased with it - no annual fee is a bonus. Use it for anything and everything you buy "Princess" - your cruise care, onboard purchases, transfers, etc. and the double points add up fast. you can then either redeem for OBC or a statement credit. The statement credit is of greater monetary value (information on this can be found on Barclays site). Last year we used it for a few cruises and a large landscaping project and received a total of $400 back to the card as a credit, and $50 OBC on our last cruise. As with all credit cards - pay in full each month or the interest will erode the benefit - enjoy! [emoji3]

I pay in full as soon as I charge...or with in a few days

I use a mobile app for that and my bank and easily make sure a balance is never carried....

This year- 500$ off my cruise AND 2- 50$ OBC....

One year, I was paying for 6 cruise fares. My credit line was not THAT high and I did not want to increase it, so I put a few thousand onto my account before I asked for final payment to go thru and I got the double points on all 6 fares... :)

This upcoming cruise, I was shy under 1,000 points for that 2nd OBC- soooo

I prepaid for my excursions....got double points for that payment and qualified for the extra OBC before the sailing cut off date.

I use Chase Sapphire preferred. There is a fee but it is quickly off set by points which are transferable to cruises, airlines and a number of other things. Double points for anything to do with travel, cruise, car rental, parking, hotel etc. when points are used for travel they are worth more. Also double points for restaurants. Since restaurants and travel are the places we spend most it adds up quickly. Over $1000 off a Princess cruise last year and expect more than that this year. If you don't have enough points for a transaction you can charge the balance. Works for us.

Just redeemed points today! The Princess Visa points are good for up to 5 years from the time they were posted so we've been saving for a long time.

I just went on the P. Visa site, put the number of points I was redeeming in my 'basket' (did this under section of Redeem Points for Cruise), then at checkout, I needed to enter my booking number, ship and personal info (likely a bit more was asked but was simple to obtain/enter).

Got confirmation that in 7-10 days it should show on my account as a credit. I waited to redeem until after my recent statement came out that shows the cruise final payment on it as I want the credit to go toward that payment.

Second time I've done this and it was easy.

BTW: if you call the redemption center to simply ask a question, they will want to know your last 4 of social security...even though you have already entered your card number into the automated system. I hung up on them because "for security reasons" they could not clarify one of the redemption FAQs from the website!!! Mind you, I was not asking for any specific info about my account, not any info about how many points I had, or anything; I just wanted to make sure that when I checked-out from redeeming points, the amount would show up on my account/statement.

We used the Princess Visa for a long time until our bank came out with a credit card that gives 5 points for every dollar spent and once over $1000 spent in a month gives an addition 25% in points and over $2000 gives addition 50%. Also points are earned when paying bills online and also for direct deposit.....no fees or anything...in our opinion it was a no brainer;)

We find you make out better redeeming your points as credit towards the cruise rather than OBC. You pay for your cruise and get 2 points for each dollar spent, then the credit just shows up as a credit on your account, after you've collected your 2 points per dollar. OBC is a credit and you don't spend your money on board and don't get the 2 points per $.

Do you mind sharing what bank that is? Sounds like a great program, better than my current go to the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

OBC or credit against your credit card balance all works the same way.

Planning to pay for the cruise with the Princess credit card. It may take a while to get to 40,000 points. That is still $20,000 spent on Princess. I guess if I were close to a threshhold, I could prepay excursions and gratuities on the credit card.

Those are the two items we always pay with out Princess credit card. Excursions not so much since there usually much cheaper with independent operators.

I signed up for the Princess Visa a couple months ago only because my Amex is no longer accepted at Costco. I will pay for my next cruise with it and see how much credit I have after that and redeem. Tuff choice as I use my Amex for business airfare ugh!

The new VISA at Costco has the same reward benefits as the old AMEX. Your AMEX credits roll over to the VISA.

You can get a much better deal from a variety of credit card companies. Cash back of 3% on travel is common. Not only would this apply to cruise expenses, it would also apply to hotels, meals, rental cars, airline fares, etc.

Also cash back cards have several other advantages: cash is combined with all promotions and sales, cash can be used on any cruise line so you're not locked into one cruise line.

Shop around, you can do better.

Actually it doesn't work out the same. If you get OBC, the charges don't go on your credit card, earn 2 points each, then get refunded with the OBC. Where as with the cruise credit you have paid for the cruise, getting 2 points for each dollar then getting a $ amount credit on your bill as your reward, you are earning points and getting a refund for the dollars spent

What you saying is a little confusing. With our OBC I always use it up the first or second day with casino charges. My account is then at 0 dollars & anything such as gratuities, purchases, tours, drinks etc. charged during the cruise are billed against my CC at the end of the trip. (at 2 points per dollar).

We also charge our cruise with our travel agent using our card when booking the trip.

Has anyone done this? Read about a poster that charged everything to his credit card pre and post cruise for the 2x points, and did not redeem until after returned from cruise. After returning home, he redeemed with the booking number and got the credit applied to his statement.

If you got OBC before leaving, then that money did not earn 2x points.

Do you get 2% for on-board charges, ie, on your account?

Do you get 2% for buying the OBC?

I don't think anyone is saying that you could buy OBC and get 2% and then spend the OBC on board and get another 2%.

Of course, you could get a card that pays 3% cash back on all travel, put all your onboard charges on the card. You're better off.

Key Bank and it's the Key2Reward Master charge:)

They could give you 1,000 points per dollar-- it's all in how the redemption works out. And this card offers 1%, which isn't all that great.

Yes, you can get your points redeemed to apply to what you owe on the credit card.
