AMA Ships

We're on AMAPRIMA in a few weeks on the Danube Nuremberg to Budapest. I'm seeing a lot of info on the boards about Viking having to transfer passengers via bus due to the low water levels. Anyone have any info how AMA ships are doing?

A friend of mine is on the Sonata currently and he has not posted about any problem. He's posted many other things but not about being transfered.

The AMA Prima, Sonata and Bella are doing the Romantic Danube cruise, Vilshofen to/from Budapest. Vilshofen is below the shallow spot of the Danube that is causing the ship swaps. There have been times when some ships have not been able to dock in Budapest due to the low water levels, but according to the vessel finder site, AMA Prima has been at the Budapest docking area below Elizabeth bridge since Nov. 1--I guess waiting for your Nov. 23 departure. Sonata was at Vilshofen yesterday, Bella due at Vilshofen on 20 Nov.

We are on Day 2, aboard Amaprima, and are having a great time. We boarded yesterday in Budapest, the ship docks just south of the Elizabeth bridge, so having stayed one night at the Intercontinental Hotel, we were a 6 minute taxi ride to the dock. We were met on the street, where the taxi dropped us by an Amawaterway employee who carried our 2 - 50 pound suitcases down a staircase and right onto the ship for us. Within minutes, we were checked in, by handing over our passports, and we were Our cabin. Very smooth embarkation.

The Danube water level in low, as you can see the watermarks on the side of the river bank, but there were cargo and passenger barges moving freely up and down the river. Last night was the Illumination cruise with was cold but beautiful. The Captain moves the ship north for about 50 minutes during dinner, and then they flip a u-turn and invite everyone to the top deck for the view. Everyone bundled up, and with the help of blankets, hats, gloves and shots of some nasty but warming liqueur, we had a delightful time. Today was a bus tour of Pest, with stops in Buda at the Fishermans Bastion and the Christmas Markets at Vorosmarty. The guide was very knowledgable of the country and history of the city. The ship headed north, and we reboarded at 2:30, up river. We are cruising north, there is other cargo ship activity in the river and there seems to be no problems with low water levels for the Amaprima. Tomorrow is Vienna.
