hi mom got the "all clear" to travel about 8 months ago.

She has a defibrillator but the heart dr. Gave her a device from St. Jude that reads her heart at night time and will call the authorities God forbid if something happens.

It runs on an Internet connection. How does that work if the cruise line shuts down the system while sailing??

The cruise line does not ever shut down the internet. But you would have to be logged on for it to work. That can get rather expensive if your ship charges by the minute. Where are these 'authorities' that the device is to call? EM

St. .Judes Medical website regarding traveling with such a device states:

A great option for travel, cruise ships often have a doctor and medical services on board. Before booking your trip:

Check with the cruise company or your travel agent to see if they provide medical resources,

Therefore you need to contact the Special Needs Dept of the Cruise line to see how this can be handle on board.

I would suggest calling the heart doctor's office and ask to speak to whoever works with those devices. Explain that she will be cruising and there is no point in calling people thousands of miles away who can't do anything for her, and ask if there is a way to turn on an audible alarm instead (assuming someone will be in the cabin with her who can call for medical help if it goes off).
